    1 Day in Bangkok

I'm going to be taking a newbie with me in December and we're going to be spending two nights and a full day in Bangkok. When it comes to Bangers I'm pretty much a newbie myself, so not entirely sure what to do during the day. Not fussed about anything in particular, just want to see a couple of highlights.

I'm keen to grab a boat and explore the canals a bit. Maybe see a temple and some sort of a market. That'll do. We'll be staying on Soi 4. Planning on getting up bright and early at the crack of noon and heading out for around 4-5 hours. Then I want to head to khao san road for a feed and experience a bit of that cluster fuck before bailing out and heading to the warm, sticky bosom of Nanai.

    Any suggestions?

Take the BTS to Pathan Taksin (bridge), hop on the Chao Praya river ferry from there to tha Wat Po stop.

There you have plenty of choices:
Wat Arun is straight on the other side of the river.
    Wat Po across the street..
Turn right if you want to see China Town,
Left is the Royal palace and Wat Phra Kieuw..
Khao San road is behind there, 500 meters from the entrance of the Royal Palace..

Crack of 'noon' ? Might miss CoffeeClub's beaut brekkie menu

Why go further than Asoke/T21 for eating, shopping and eye candy ... then straight back to soi 4

IMO Rak's advice is good for those with a little more time to explore.

A newbie in Bangkok... after the first night he'll be hung over and will be spending most of the day trying to work out what he did the night before... and how he ended up with a cute little thing in his bed...

Not far in a taxi by the looks of it. My friend's a big boy who runs out of steam quick and I'm just not that interested in Bangkok. It might have to be a quick compromise. River ferry, look around, find a good restaurant for lunch, Khao San, find a rooftop bar for a couple of drinks and then Nanai. That's me plan I think.

I'm pretty sure the earliest I can drag myself out of bed would be around 11:00am after the first night I'm planning on having.

We're off to Pattaya after, so plenty of opportunities for that kind of Shenanigans 55. What's the general atmosphere of the ole BJs like?

Bangkok Soapies are better than Patts imho

the BJ place in Bangkok is pretty good , they have a sink to wash your bits before and after , in Patts it's generally a wet wipe or two ...

I much prefer Nana to Soi Cowboy

I'm more of a fan of Minder's Soi Cowboy.. 55

The massage places around Soi 24/26 and 33 are unequalled in my opinion... high quality girls and services and value for baht...

Newbie's first night in Bangkok it's the host's duty to steer it. Right of Passage. Baptism by fire. And hilarious story...55

agree with all this however BTS Stop is called Saphan Taksin....and the Bridge is the Sathon (Taksin) Bridge

Baht Boats are a great way to explore the river and the old part of the city as suggested by Rak...plus its an easy day out...and being by the river helps in the heat

This itinerary is my favourite half day out in BKK...I must have taken about 20-30 friends on the exact same tour...

I've never been to Khao San Rd
Always mean to go but never make it

If Ao goes out with her Thai friends from all different parts of Bangkok(Vancouver friends) it's usually Khao San Rd

For a rooftop bar, Above 11 on soi 11, is fabulous ... 10 minute walk (or quick taxi ride) from north side of Suk.
    Cheers, Rob.

Probably best the early part of the afternoon, before it gets overrun by twat packers and chances of catching flees increase dramatically.

I've always wanted to check out Vertigo.

Exxy, over-rated, crowded ... by all means go look and have a drink, we did. Though for true atmosphere, great tapas and service with as good a view and at reasonable prices .... 11.

Moon Bar - upper level. Vertigo is actually one floor down >

Again I haven't been but I think Khao San Rd has changed quite a bit
Many Thais go out there at night now
