Can't see anything on sat maps. This mornings NSW weather 'bomb' was cyclonic in nature though.

Meanwhile ... up here in lannaland we had a very cold 22c morning, blue skies and 32 by noon, currently 26 at 6pm. Doesn't get much better.

There are valid reasons why I spend my winters in Chiang Mai. Back home where I live on Vancouver Island it is a pissing down cold rain and all the rivers are blown out with mild flooding. No fishing opportunities.

Ive never heard of a tornado hitting south Thailand in my 10 years here.

In fact a strong wind is something to comment on.

Hard to fathom really , considering warm seas are on both sides.

Most 'big' weather seems to be generated above PI , then 'tracks' and loses intensity.

Honestly , South Thailand is either hot , or wet and hot.

More breezes would be good ..55

Those were waterspouts, quite common at sea during hot unstable weather conditions. I've sailed thru many waterspouts in relatively small frontal squalls, scary yes, but not as dangerous as real tornadoes. More like a willy willy. Lol

Have seen one of those water spouts off Phuket and a few around Sydney over the years.

Well they are watching one form, IF it does it will be Tuesday/Wednesday so you may just get out before it. Just keep an eye on the reports, don't get side tracked by Pussy 55555555

Wow...great timing been home an hour 55

Managed to dodge the bushfires on cape york after flying over them last friday and thinking i wouldn't be going anywhere.
The strong wind died down overnight and took off early saturday and drove through many fires but there wasn't a puff of wind so all good.
Also avoided the tropical rain depressuion that was due to hit this arvo.

From Lakeland along the Mulligan Hwy to Innisfail through Atherton,Mareeba,Millaa Millaa and Melana was probably the prettiest drive i've done in Oz.

The road to Weipa is a doozy...much of it at 20kms/hr...320kms dirt of 570kms...shook the sh1t outta me and the little UD 55

Cairns would be the other side of the mountains in the distance...

Glad your back safe, i wasn't going to be coming to rescue you

Fack the bush fires up between Rocky and Gladstone etc are massive....areas burnt out are bigger than Belgium!!

AND it is far from over, only just keeping it from homes, all stock and pastures are gone.

Had a scorcher today here in Kalgoorlie, followed by a storm that nearly blew the pub away. I could have ended up with a free flight back to Perth. All died down in minutes. Scorcher again tomorrow.

Speaking of scenic drives. There are roads south of Perth, where greener pastures and wineries start, that twist and winde through the hills and leave you with views of torquis waters around each bend. Some of the views of the water can make first timers gasp. They're so green and pop up at the apex of hills so suddenly when you're not expecting them.

Another nice warm day in Chiang Mai, but not insufferable. I can ride my bike around town with just a light cotton shirt. I just have to keep it upright so I can avoid any more road rash. I have to keep reminding myself to NOT to ride like a Thai in traffic.

Australia is in a massive heat wave currently and is covering all of the country.

Marble Bar, in Nth West, is going to be 49 degrees today. Adelaide, in South Aust. (opposite end of the country) is going to be 41 tomorrow.

Last Fri. & Sat. here in Nth Brisbane it hit 39 degrees and was 36 at 5pm.

Glad I work in the Air Cond. Display home.

Chiang Mai is perfect right now. Nice cool nights for sleeping and not too hot during the day. It has been gradually cooling of for the past week. I think it is about 16 or 17 degrees at night (62 F) and about 25 degrees during the day (low 80s F). I know I like a light windbreaker when I ride at night or first thing in the morning. I seldom ever put the air-con on until March... and then only if we have a long spell of really hot days.

Lovely time of year weatherwise, though everything turning brown so not as picturesque for visitors.
    Cheers, Rob.

This year I have noticed lots of leaves dropping .
It is certainly the coolest time of the year as far as mornings go.
Its maybe 23c over nite , and about 25c when we get back from our walk at 9am.

It reminds me of my first Xmas here ( 2008 ) because of the temps and breeze , but also because we are getting intermittent thunder storms right into the 'dry' season like we did then.
I watch the garden a lot now , and the odd thing is that its quite topsy turvy as to what plants are taking off , and what is going into hibernation.

For example , my papayas sprouted well in October , and are streaking away now.
But at the same time , "Som" ( The Thai 'oranges' that look like mandarines ) are everywhere and cheap. I thought they were a winter crop.
The roses are blooming , but as I say , quite a few deciduous trees are almost bare.

    Anyway , i like it.
Its just that the dreaded heat of March , April is around the corner ...

That is trout season where I live in Canada and that is why I go home then... but we could get anything from warm sunshine to a cold rain all day... or even a bit of snow.
