    Chiang Mai fish and chips

Dee, who asked to go by the one name, opened "the first mobile fish-and-chips in Thailand" in July last year, after finding an old recipe for fish batter that his father had used. His dad, originally from Hong Kong, ran a thriving South London chippy called George’s Fish Bar from 1963 to 1992.

So how difficult can it be to make a fish batter? Quite tricky, according to 41-year-old Dee, whose mother is from Chiang Rai and who grew up there until moving to England at the age of three.

"There are many types of flour involved," he said in his chirpy C0ckney accent, adding that his ingredients aren't "something you would find on the shelves".

Dee's food cart is the same as those used by other mobile vendors in Thailand. It's a bit battered - if you’ll excuse the pun - but it enables him to serve his loyal customers in various locations while keeping his overheads low.

    Cheers, Rob.
Lifes journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well-preserved body, but to skid in sideways totally worn out, shouting: holy s.h.i.t what a ride!

Now we just need the Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding food cart and Chiang Mai becomes my retirement destination of choice....already having a decent pint of Guinness at the Irish pub. Just to cater for those thoughts of home

No.......I've a few years left before I look at retiring, but it's probably where I'll end up. It has a bit of everything, whilst not having too much of anything......Apart from Temples

Had a decent pint of Guinness at the Red Lion English pub last week too.

Local supermarkets in CM cater well for all farang tastes these days.
Latest fav is the Food Hall at the new Central Festival which is convenient to my pad even though i'm out in the bush. Big C Extra and Makro even more convenient

A fine breakfast, and a really good bakery with fantastic fresh bread. Never tried their other meals though.

No chance....I get dropped off and the wife has a little chat with the barstaff, after which they appear to be the best of friends and willing spies should I decide to have a wander.

To be honest, it's also nice being in a normal bar with no chance of being pestered. Reminds me of home.........Ahhhhh
