Boat up the Mae Kok river Chiang rai

Anyone caught a longtail up the Mae Kok?

Where do they leave from and is there plenty of them all day.

Usally ride the MB to the Guest House near Raummit Elephant Camp, but thought may give the boat a go. Its about 25kms

The cheaper passenger boats run every 1/2 hour or so.
The one we got was sitting there waiting to be hired.

I'd recommend heading up to Thaton and doing the river from there. Nice day out. We did notice some VIP type boats with car seats in them heading up the other way from CR end. Maybe you can get one of them from Thaton too.

Nov-Dec-Jan is probably the best time as little chance of rain and more chance of water in the river after the rainy season.
A nice day in the rainy season would be ok too.

I was planing on doing it from CR but will go to Thaton. We are doing it next month.

Need to get near the Ko Khwae wua dam so looks about 1/2 way from Thaton to CR.

Moo whats your suggestions to get from CM to Thaton on the scoot? 107 or is there a better way?

We got a taxi to Thaton from CR and the boat back to CR.
If it's 1/2 way i'd probably just go from the CR end and maybe do Thaton-Ko kae wua another time.

Ive been up the Mae Kok a couple of times now, the boats leave from CR Pier (google location) we head over the bridge (Mae Kok) towards Mae Sai and then immediate left and go in that way, its the 2nd bridge from Hwy 1

Both times I have been the water level was low and boats were limited (Feb), you had to leave in the mornings, plenty of boats though and cheap IMO..............We had to negotiate with the sales office, not direct with boat operator.

How do you think the water level will be next month?
