Why do Europeans smoke so much?

This is a serious question. Does anyone know why Europeans smoke so much?
I literally cant sit anywhere in my hotel without a Euro lighting up
Do they not have No Smoking campaigns?
Because you dont see many North Americans or Australians but id say 80% of people smoking seem to be from European countries

    PS- it sucks balls

They do have restrictions in EU but in Thailand its easier because there are not as much restrictions so smoke more as you can virtually every where.

    You bored again eh?

I'm in too good a mood to bite.

    So here's a hamster instead.

Yeah that is the good thing about LOS, can spark up in a nightclub, I do enjoy a ciggie with a few beers. So tend to smoke on holiday more than I do at home.

I just watched Anthony Bourdain visit Johannesburg and areas around it. Looks like the foodie thing is happening there too. So many colonial influences in one place.

    It's Eastern Europeans!

We had smoking knocked on the head until those bastards turned up.

I think some of them have their first cig in the cradle.

Nothing, the cute little guy just makes you smile, that's all.

We've had discussions on smoking before, and it's just about as pleasant a topic as religion or politics, and usually ends up in pointless arguments, so I refrained from posting last night.

Smoking is banned in most public places in the UK.

So you can't smoke in bars, or at football games.

I have a big Serbian friend and he used to spoke up until about a year ago. He still enjoys the occasional cigar. He told me that in Eastern European countries, smoking was a right of passage into becoming a man. You basically were not a man until you smoked. I think a lot of Europeans are more tradition oriented. North Americans tend to be trend setters, and the west coast people are more open to newer ideas. That is just a generalization, but it seems to prove out where I've traveled. Californians are definitely different than New Yorkers.

Probably to stop them getting so overweight, like Americans and Australians..
All good while you young- but nothing is as horrible as the breath of a 60 year old smoker with late stage emphysema.
