    Importing a car into Thailand

I'm just interested in knowing if it's possible to even import a car into Thailand. Not that I have any plans to do so but I was looking at cars driving around Phuket during my last trip and thought to myself, I'd rather drive my own car here. Is it even possible to import your own car from the US into Thailand?

Geez..."New or used vehicles permanently imported into Thailand are generally subject to very high taxes and duties (often around 200 percent of the vehicle's value)". So with a $30,000 USD car, import taxes and duties for permanent status could cost $60,000 USD??? Seems a bit extreme but guess it is what it is.

There used to be an industry in importing classics and doing the full resto but I posted maybe a year ago that they had put a stop to even that.
Things may have changed as This is LOS and these things are a bit fluid.5555

Not worth the time effort and possible loss of the vehicle.

In saying that it has been done but at a huge cost..

^ probably different for a Thai and was done many decades ago when the import laws may have been different.

Moo, if I remember correctly, you recently posted that motorbike import duties are being phased out soon.

Is this likely to apply to cars as well?

I didn't say it. Moo said it in response to a post of mine. It was news to me.

Settle Nubs - I was asking Moo for a link to the ruling on tariff reductions on motorbikes.
There are some I'd love to import.

Because cars are so much cheaper in the US than Canada but they need some small ajustements to be driveable here, there is a big broker industry for that here
