    Ko Lipe

Hello Has anyone been at Ko Lipe. If yes how is it there, and what is the easiest way to get there from BuriRam.

    Ko Lipe

I don't know what airport Buriram is closest to, but if you can get to Hat Yai then it's only an hour speedboat from there.

When I went in January I went from Phuket and got a high speed ferry with Tigerline. The journeytime was around 5/6 hours and stopped at various islands along the way; Koh PP, Koh Lanta, Ngai ect...

Another place you could get a flight to which would put you on Tigerlines route is Trang.

^ Trang would be the best place to fly to.

Both AA and Nok fly there from DMK.

    ^^ there you go

In terms of what it's like there - it's fantastic.

I've seen my fair share of islands in Thailand and Koh Lipe is right up there for me. People on trip advisor and lonely planet will moan it's too busy but I went in the middle of high season and it was not busy at all.

The island itself is small so it doesn't really matter where you stay as you can walk to the 3 main beaches in around 10-15 mins.

I stayed on walking street as I wanted to be central but if I went again I would maybe stay on sunrise or sunset beach.

    Some other things to bear in mind when going to Koh lipe;

    - there are no ATMs so take plenty of cash
    - there are no girly bars so take 1 with you unless you want to go solo
    - take care with the mossie repellent. There is constantly lots of construction work around the island which means plenty of pockets of areas where still water can build up. U fortunately I came down with the dengue lite thing towards the end of my trip - chikanugya. Had a bad headache for a week or 2 but cleared up after a few weeks.

There are some fantastic spots to snorkel near lipe. You can actually snorkel right off any of the beaches but the main areas will be only gotten to by long tail boat. Be sure to do a trip out to Koh adang, Koh rawi and Koh hing ngam. My favourite beach was sunset. Very calm waters and perfect for swimming. Sunrise was nice too and features a cool sand bank you can walk across at low tide. Pattaya beach is where you will disembark on arrival. There are some nice spots to relax there but I found it too packed with long tails. Day trips are around 400-500 bhat per person which by Phuket standards is dead cheap.

As mentioned there are no ATMs there and I spent around 4k a day there which covered food drink and a bit of shopping for me and a girl.

There are plenty of pics and a video in my trip report above. Any other questions feel free to ask here.

Hello Supersub. Thank you very much for this detailed info about Koh Lipe. I sound to me worth trying. And I like to Snorkel too. I will take Girl and Cash with me so no problem there.

With AirAsia or Nok Air you can book all the way to Koh Lipe so that will include transfer from the airport to the pier and the ferry.

Those flight/ferry combos are often quite long. Check it out and see how it compares to flying to trang first and then getting a ferry. It can sometimes be a difference of 5 hours which if you get there early enough is a full day extra on the island in terms of beach time.

Beautiful island. One of the nicest I've seen to date. Looks a lot busier than when I went last.

I've wanted to go back there for some time but I had a bit of a bad experience that year which I've in my mind attributed to Koh Lipe so have been hesitant.

Shortly after coming back from Koh Lipe (to Patong) I started getting these really strong headaches for a few weeks after. I reckon I picked up something up from the mossies there. Chikanugya or dengue-lite. There was tonnes of construction work going on which meant lovely areas of still water for mossies to lay their eggs.

Of course I've no idea if it was actually mossies but I've reluctant go to back there since.

    ^ bed bug spray?

you'd know all about if you had either of the 2 diseases mentioned.

I've never actually considered bed bug spray tbh would that give someone a recurring headache and overall groggy feeling for a few weeks?

I was also thinking maybe it was the result of a few weeks of solid daily drinking taking its toll although it came on so suddenly after I left Koh Lipe I instinctively assumed it was picked up there.

I went there 8 years ago. It was a trek. Fly to Hat Yai. Taxi to the Van transport station. Crazy over crowded van ride to the water. Then a boat ride to no pier. Handling luggage over water to long tail boats. Dragging suitcases over the beach to the rooms. But the water was amazing. Great snorkeling.
I just girl in bar. Buy me one dink?....

^^ nasty stuff. Maybe it was that after all.

Now I'm just hoping my upcoming trip goes off without a hitch. 555 Staying 4 nights on Koh Ngai which is a smaller and less developed island than Lipe. Also staying in Ao Nang but have been there a bunch of times and never had any issues.

Are there any checks or obvious signs I should be keeping an eye out for?
