How much time do you spend on social media?

    Facebook, Twitter, Line .........

Are bulletin boards / forums classed as social media?

As communication, recording of and sharing information have made us the most successful critter on our little blue rock is it really going forward?

Miss-information can be spread so easily, yet real images get out that authorities do not want us to see (spreading the real truth).

Then the question of face to face time. Even intimate time as some take those devices to the bedroom. Erosion of family?

Facebook / Twitter: Not one second, not a member of either and never will be.
    Line: None.
Viber: Great tool for keeping in touch with texts and photos to friends around the world.

Farcical book: Never .. .can see the upside to it, but on the whole don't agree with it ... if i want to know something, i prefer to give someone a call.. Mark knows far to much about everyone already, its out of control

Twitter: Never ... you are a twit to be using that

Forums: 1 hour average a day.... Another bad addiction, spent hunched over a screen for hours on end .... great tool to learn and meet people however, prefer to waste time on this medium... but still not a healthy pastime

Not much really. I only do a few regular site = bikes and knuckle heads like you bunch

When I get up and have a cup of Tea, when I'm not working shift.

Otherwise maybe a quick (restricted) browse at work, or if I'm on the turps big style after a few (14 hour) day shifts in a row.............

Other than that, bugga all really !

Just about to tuck into some marinara, so I'll be gone again shortly.

Social media is here to stay and like it or not it has already replaced vast amounts of face to face communication as well as other redundant forms of communication used post WW2.

My parents didn't even have a telephone in the house, Dad had one at his place of business and it was a four digit number. Nowadays I don't even use a landline at all.

My generation saw an explosion of communications technology being put in the hands of the average person. We have embraced cell phones, email, and smart phone messaging.
The next generation have already made us look like dinosaurs with our "I don't use that" attitudes, I mean we have turned into our parents in that regard.
If you don't have a presence on Facebook, Instagram and maybe Twitter, you are completely out of the loop and relying on everything you hear second hand.

I think forums in particular and to some extent other online groups have become the answers to the question of "News filtering".That is to say that things you see and hear can now be "Filtered" through small groups of people you know and trust to some degree as against mere acceptance of truth in the vast online media.
I would spend about an hour a day online. Sometimes more if I have the time.

I have a Facebook page but never use it, if i get a PM it sends me an email and I go look, about 3-4 times a year.

I don't have Twitter or Line or any other such thing.

I do spend a lot of time on the internet, here and some other Forums as well as news, jobs etc as it is my main point of contact and information. Where I am I don't see people to talk to very often, once fortnight??

I do find it sort of fries my eyes a fair bit. Guess I'm gettig older and it has accumulated as when at work I was on it most of the time.

For sure it is, often we are being social, ( however sometimes antisocial..55) and we are using a form a media to be social.

Some would consider forums "old school social media" as they were around a lot earlier than FB, twit and other forms ....

Jonty i think when you posted this question "how much time" you needed to add in bold "Now be VERY honest with yourself"

Because i can see already with mine, C1's and maybe even Obes, we are already strecthing the truth .... No way C1 just 1 hour, i am calling you on that, and calling myself as well, unless you can speed read ...55

But to read and just keep up with a decent amount of threads on here, and then post a few everyday ( 6907 posts C1, so maybe more than a few ) you have to be spending at least 2, maybe even 3 hours a day if you truly added up the 5 mins here, 10 minutes there,

Maybe we should first start with ...... how many times a day do you check or open up TD .....?

I think you are talking about the "Law of averages" there Sydney.
Sometimes I don't check in for days.
DP though...25,000 posts, must be four or five hours a day.

My real point is that when this type of question is posted, and i have seen it before, people, including myself, don't tend to post an honest reply, as i quite easily showed with your line of "Sometimes I don't check in for days." and i apologize profusely my good man for using you as the example ....

But one hour a day, i just can't believe, that 7 hours a week ... i reckon most of us would clock that just on a weekend if something lively was happening here !! .....

I am not sure why WE tend to not be honest with ourselves about this, maybe deep down we know we shouldn't be spending as much time as we do living in cyber world in front of this screen.

We have discussed how many hours a day before ...... DP answer had me rolling around the floor in laughter ..... about an hour i am sure he said ....55555555555

Everyone is always about in hour .......

But its hard to calculate .... if you are in front of a screen all day, is TD open ? if your computer is on all night after work, is TD open ? then how many times do you check, how many times do you have a long session and hang in with a debate ?

If I am not on the road, various sites will be open and in the background, it's called multi-tasking 555 But a lot depends on my moods and what is interesting.
sometimes I will have a look and see nothing worth posting about or commenting on..
FB keeps me up to date with friends world wide. but I tend not to post too much...

And I never go on porn sites 555555

i think social media has been great for lonely people...allows them a voice that they would not have normally have had....it also allows people to be something that they are not in real life...especially on a site like this...simple becouse very few get to meet each other....

think we are all guilty when we say we dont spend much time on line....most say an hour at a time..that over a day a month...perhaps way to much time on your hands..or wasted time....

just out of interested to those who do...why are you on line the whole day say on this site(or much of it)...i do understand that you have logged on and that you might have a desk job....but why is it so important to see whats happening 24/24 on this site

i think social media has made a very big impact on our lives..more than we realise (sic)....read the other day that the average person looks at his phone a 1000 times a week...why why why 55555
