    Cursing in Thailand

I don't know why this surprised me but it did.

We had dinner at my wife's old bosses house tonight. A wealthy, by any standards, Thai couple.
We got around to cursing and I mentioned that i thought or heard that Thais didn't curse that much.

Well.....apparently my assumption was wrong. They basically said they all curse like mad

I think i thought otherwise because they can be so sensitive and easily offended that cursing someone would be a big no no

But we had Thais from all walks of life at the table laughing and saying they curse like sailors

Queue the my wife/gf would never curse brigade 555

Try having a wife doing that in English but yet still not knowing when it is appropriate and in which company. Early days for example. Noms .... the words tits, boobs and breasts. Pu$$y, Crunt, vagaina. When to use the correct term for the situation. I was translating at a doctors consult for some lady issues! Yep the wrong term used.

At a shopping centre and she is on the phone to some guy that is dating one of the girls she was helping out. The triride she let loose on him and the stares from passers by. I just wanted to find the proverbial rock.

The locals curse amongst themselves but with little volume or passion usually and no seeming ill effects. They get a big laugh if I stub my toe and scream out fcuk, and sometimes say to me "why you not say fcuk".

But if I were to hear an incoherent scream of ihiya I might think something was about to go down.

The first release of the dreadful remake of "Bangkok Dangerous" with Nick Cage had some later edited out swearing by his Thai side kick ... "yet maee" (sounds more like "mare" to me) or mother fucker was a classic ....

The way they were emphatic that they all swear......with both the women and men......I'd say both.
Actually when I expressed my naivete about them cursing......of them assured me they all do and include your mom, grandmother and dead uncle in the curse too!! 555

I inadvertantly taught my thai grand daughter to swear
If you have to swerve the car hard or stomp on the brakes she stands up and yells , "Fcuking idiot!" to any car or bike nearby that she blames for the upset!

^ when I was a kid my Dad used to point out people walking greyhound dogs with muzzles and say "look at that nitwit"....I just took it for granted that the name for people with greyhounds were "nitwits

so one day at school after being teased by another kid about my dog following me to school I said in return "you should talk...your Dad's a nitwit"

It all got a bit embarrassing when the kid and his Dad turned up at my house one night to challenge me and my Dad about me calling his Dad a nitwit

moral of story...be careful of the names you call people in front of your kids...my Dad didn't know whether to be embarrassed or laugh like hell....I think he did a bit of both...555

Sounds like a horrible childhood...did your butler often pour the wrong tea? Lol!!

    Sorry couldn't help myself...

My nephews were young, about eight and four and they were having a fight in the garden. You arshole, no you arshole.. I reprimanded them and then went inside to speak with my brother... He owned up, it was his form of having a go at drivers who got in his way 555

I will never forget my first home pass from National Service (Army) Where you could very easily lose count of the F word when being dressed down by an NCO
Sitting at the dinner table with the whole family there, I turned to my mother and said "Ma, pass the fucking salt, please" 5555

Ao and I were up in Whistler a couple years ago
We were driving and this asshole wouldn't let me turn
    I got so angry i called them a "d!ckhead"

Ao immediately asked "what is d!ckhead?"
So i am so flustered at this asshole driver...then i had to explain to her what an actual "d!ckhead"is

    She almost pissed herself laughing
