A dish you make that Thais love the most

So what is a food or a meal you prepare that Thais you know really like.....obviously non Thai food

Mine is my Macaroni Salad......they all love it. Like, every Thai who has every tried it.

I add finely chopped red, orange bell peppers, diced purple onions, diced capicolla and diced spicy salami with mayo and a touch of red wine vinegar. With paprika sprinkled generously on top.

Spag bol; Manila spicy pork rib; pumpkin & crab omelette w/- oyster sauce; lamb shanks. My wife and her family eat all cuisines - Italian, German, Jappo....
    Cheers, Rob.

Au for some reason loves Shepherds Pie or alternatively Steak & Kidney Pie with mashed potato top with cheese melted on it. Or just plain old mashed potatoes with a nice rich home made gravy. Everything has to have tomato sauce on it though.... even a beautiful steak.

Not falling for this one again.

My grandfather came to visit very early on and Dao refused to cook because he was difficult sod. I cooked spaghetti but for Dao's plate I added 4 chillies.

"oh honey next time we go to khon kaen you can cook this for Mai & Pa" What they don't have a kitchen?

"First we buy a cooking loom then you can cook for them"5555555

We built a kitchen for them, I cooked in it once. Now it is full of silk worms and duck excrement and they cook and eat in the carport with the charcoal bucket. They still wash the dishes outside in a big plastic bucket. At least they use the electric pump now for water. Luv em but.5555

^^ 555 jonty I know this story well.

My version is a laundry. Au says to me one day a couple of years back when we are visiting mama and papa... I want to make laundry for them. 'ok, who's paying' I reply. 'you can do pa?' ' I don't think so teelak' 'why not' ' not my house love, your mama papa house they pay I can make ok'..... end of conversation.

One year later... 'you remember we talk about you make laundry for my house teelak' 'yes love' 'you can do this time?' 'yes love but who pays' 'you can make for gift for them?' .... so off to the shops we go. I felt a bit sorry for them doing their laundry in a couple of plastic basins on the floor so I bought a big arse Samsung top loader because I thought ok, the rest of the family will use it. Also made a cabinet with a basin, did all the plumbing blah blah blah...... Comes the big demo day with all the family watching, I'm giving instructions with Au translating even though the manual is in Thai 555. All good and a couple of days and washes later we are off to Pattaya.

I leave Thailand via Pattaya and BKK without getting back to the village until a year later to find the brand new Samsung covered in **** and hasn't been used since we left. Ho hum... I'm not building a kitchen teelak ok !!

Ha .. JK and I just eating a omelette now, with ham, cheese, onion and tomato with BBQ sauce and toast with lots of butter !! .. she is well used to this now, and BBQ is a farang sauce totally, surprising she loves it ... i am kidding about the surprising of coarse ...5555 ... anything sweet will do that

But omelette's aren't a farang food right ? Thais eat plenty of omelette's, just adding fish sauce, chilli and other things beaten into the eggs and eaten with rice,

^ in fact i would almost bet that a omelette is the most universal food around the planet, some may roll it, some cook it flat with a fold and others cook it open ...

I guess whats added is what makes it unique to the country ..

Basic staple Kiwis and Aussies add ? ham or bacon, cheese, tomato and onion .. 5555 ohh sometimes i like to add green capsicum ..

Must say i was impressed with the Kaps pumpkin and crab but !

Marinated pork BBQ on the charcoal pot.
Oyster, Soy and a touch of fish sauce, garlic and chilli with a splash of Whisky and leave for as long as you like.
Young SIL made it for me last visit as she watched me prepare it the first time and she got it down pretty good.
Next time I will add some tomato paste.
Fair dinkum, how they can cook anything in that kitchen/tiled floor food prep area has me beaten. No bench and a single gas burner

Reminds me of Pui's mother when I come to visit. She is a grand old gal and gets up every morning before daylight and puts on her little charcoal cooker.

It was still bloody cold in the morning in January and I barbequed up some spare ribs and eggs. It didn't turn out half bad and everyone had smiles on their faces when they ate

Although my MIL lives in a nice middle class townhouse with a decent working kitchen......the kitchen is a bit basic

That was the 1st thing she mentioned when here......that she liked our high-so kitchen 555

I always take Vegemite with me. Been eating it for so long I can't remember.

Haven't met I Thai who has tried it and liked the taste.

Ditto. If there is a thread going about the food that is universally disliked by Thais then Vegemite will be my nomination.
