    You Tube Channels

Awe man i am badly addicted to YT lately ... haven't watched TV for years, and always used YT for many different things ... greatest learning tool out there ...

But lately my habit has reached bad highs .. or is that lows ... i dont watch crappy shite like those fail vids, or russian car accidents, its all being poeple doing amazing stuff with there lives.

It started about 12 months ago when i got my van and started watching dudes and couples living in there vans full time, traveling around the US and other countries, now its moved into sailing vids ... i mean some of these people are living extraordinary lives, they all talk about a similar thing, that is the freedom they have, and not living the conventional life that we are taught to do, get a job, get a car, big house, mortgage etc, all those things that tie us down and think will make us more happy ...

I wonder if YT had of being around 30 years ago, and i had taken inspiration from some of these characters how my life probably would have being a lot different .... however there still is the fear of the unknown, and most can't get past that ...

Anyway this is a YT thread, and finding out what other BM's watch if any ...

This is just a few of my current watch list ... and not necessary the best i like, but watching all the same ... i could easy list 20 more channels here, Sailing LaVagabond got me started in the sailing vids, one leads to another as always on YT ....

https://www.youtube.com/user/briantrautman/videos a sailing channel about two amercian guys, a swede and a kiwi living the dream ..

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDk...a8vilFw/videos ... this guy is a real ocker, but shows the Great Barrier Reef fairly well .. not a very professional channel but quite funny

https://www.youtube.com/user/kombilife/videos .. this guy has being doing YT for years, but its a interesting story as he picks up travelers along the way

Jo uses YT for everything ... Haircutting was a fast learner several years ago, new exotic recipes ongoing, plant and garden care as required. I use it for repairs ... Eg Samsung washer, laptop keyboard fix ... It's a great resource.
    Cheers, Rob.

YouTube is great because you can focus on whatever like-minded subject you are interested in
It's so vast that you will find legitimate people in all genres

I wade through a lot of fruit loops when searching travel blogs on YouTube on a particular place I'm interested in.
But then I come upon someone I can relate to fully and it makes my holiday planning incredible

I'd go so far to say I'm a good cook.
    It's all because of YouTube
I'd think about dishes I like or want to emulate and look at videos on YouTube

Its all about the choice as well .... 40 years ago there was 2 TV channels available in NZ ..

But even unlike cable or other TV channels you can surf around, there is still a limit on what you can obtain or what you wanna watch

But the stats on YT are just mind bowing ....

4 billion YouTube videos are watched daily ... i mean what a audience, as Casey Neistat said .... you can make a viral video and reach 5 million people in a few days, Tv doesn't even come close to that in reaching a potential market

300 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute .... this is quite hard to comprehend, every minute !!

More than 81 million hours of video currently on YT ..

Ad revenue for YT in 2015 was 4.2 billion dollars with estimates of 27 billion by 2020 ..... Google only paid 1.6 billion in stock for YT .. the 3 founders probably should have held out a little longer, and its surprising its only being around for 11 years ... it seems like longer

And the thing is people even on this forum ignorantly bash smartphones.

Not sure they are shunning smartphones so much ... maybe some as they have no intent of upgrading there old flip phone ..555 ... but from my memory most discussion on phones here is more about comparison to using a laptop/desktop or phone for ease of use ...

For me phones suck for viewing content, any content, sites, videos ... even tablets are too small ... when i am watching YT i am always at full screen on a 27inch monitor, the HD content is just so good to watch like that ... i can't do that on a phone or tablet, is seems such a let down .. Websites if they haven't being built responsive, i am forever zooming in and out, its painful ... and if they have being built responsive, then its no longer the same site but a reduced version of it ..

If you are talking about obtaining info on the go, then yeah i can live with using my SP ... finding a bank, shop or location in a city you dont know, using online banking handy as, checking emails maybe ... stuff like that i dont understand how anyone would not want a SP ...

But i still prefer to do as much research as i can on a 27 inch monitor before going out the door ... in fact having two 27inch monitors is even faster, breaking a browser tab onto the 2nd screen so you can being reading that whilst waiting for another page to load ....

When i search in google or any links for that matter i never open that link in the same tab, i always "open link in new tab" so i am never using the back button, thats just slower to do that .. curretnly as i type this i have 24 tabs open over 2 screens ...5555

but you can't research or surf like that on a SP ...

With us it's used a lot for escapist tv if I'm honest...

But for do it yourself repairs and life hacks it's great.
I even gave Apple the bird this year with all their fancy special tools and replaced my iPhone battery for $6.99 parts and tools delivered free, then 20 minutes go to wo to install following the YT vid.
(But then I ran over the phone with my car. No matter...555 we have a local guy who replaced the case and screen inside 24 hours for a great low price - good as new).

I watch most of my shows etc through my laptop relayed to my TV....I use the LT for just about everything from my design work to emails/music/skype/FB/chatting in joints like this etc....but I can't stand reading/watching/typing on phones...too slow/awkward for me to write anything of substance and the screens are too small for me to really get an "experience" from watching TV/clips etc...I keep a small phone that fits in my fob pocket for calls and sms but I very rarely use it

I also don't want to be one of those people with my nose stuck in my phone all day when out for a meal with friends etc...happy to leave all that at home when I am out and being social...but if I know I will be alone up at the beach I will sometime tuck the LT under my arm to use in the restaurant for a bit..or heaven forbid...take a book 555

In the UK the BBC have an IT program called "Click"
They produced one episode using only mobile devices.

Is was one of the most stressful things they ever did, with unreliable connections, and software freezing and crashing all the time....

You need to catch up, Sydney..!

Josje Has abandoned ship a while ago, and is doing the arty-thing in Kiwiland...
And you haven't even met Frida and "Mankraft" yet...

Maybe cut those work hours back to about 70 a week, and have some time left for the things that really matter..! 555

You guys must be on unlimited data plans. I get only 7 gig a month and U Tube or video stuff really eats into my allowance. But I agree UT really is a useful way to get good info Re Car repairs etc.

No way in a pink fit you would get me diving here .....

Watch from about 12.30 ... this is driving Delos style ... this channel is by far my favorite, they production skills have come so far, for anyone interesting in sailing or even just the lifestyle these guys have created, i suggest you start back at epi 1 and see were they have come from in the last 7 years ... just incredible what they have achieved and done ....

Bacon have you watched any of this channel ..... if you want to buy a sail boat, then start here, its stuff dreams are made off

    Ah, you've caught up.. 555

    I agree, brilliant lifestyle!
I was trying to figure out what they were making while enjoying life? About 6000$ per week (episode) from their Patreons, 150K subscribtions and about 500K views.. And then the merchandise and Buy-us-a-beer contributions..
Guess they are saving for their next ship..!

^^^^ I think they are up to $ 8500 per video now on Patron ... i looked this up after they had spent 10K on there rigging ....

And you made me jump to Yoshi leaving Delos ... i skipped about 20 episodes after you told me that .555

but that episode was very well done, almost like watching a high end TV program but only in real .... i nearly cried ...5555

I use YouTube for music I can't get any other way. Occasionally, someone posts something excellent on Facebook that comes from youtube. it might be some simple solution to something, or how to create a useful tool by adding something to it. Tonight I watched some things you can do with some tape and a paperclip wire attached to a Bic lighter. I've seen other uses for empty plastic bottles.

I also enjoy watching the old Johnny Carson shows when he had the odd great comedian.

You could start watching YouTube for the rest of your life and never watch it all.

I have a big TV at home but all I watch is sports and some occasional news. The rest of the stuff is all ads that ruin a movie.
