    Songkran in Patong

Hi... Going to Patong for a few days for a mates birthday party". And we just realised that the day were leaving is Songkran plane leaving at 10pm so we thinking we depart to go to airport about 7pm.
So just would like to know what time of the day does it start and will we get the taste of it as we have never been to one.

Also what's the go.. where's the best place to be...what's the do's and dont's.
And can you get sick if the water gets in your mouth.
    Cheers.!

    Bangla road

And yes you can get sick but I guess it depends where the water is coming from. A mate of mine caught an eye infection during Songkran in Chiang Mai. Suspect maybe water from along the moats were being used.

yes....if you want full on water wars Bangla Road is the place to be..it's also busy along Beach and Rat-U-Thit Roads..up on Nanai its a bit more civilized and laid back if you take up a pew in a bar

Traffic can be pretty much gridlocked in Patong all day so talk with your hotel there about what time you need to leave the hotel to make your light..it could easily be 2-3 even plus hours to get to the airport that day...its the worse day of the year on the roads

Last year in Patong was only 1 1/2 days, afternoon of the 12th to sundown on 13th. Not sure if the Kings passing on will affect the celebrations, I guess it will limit it a little.

1 1/2 days is plenty. Reminds me, better go do some servicing in the Armoury.

Thais have the good graces to stop before the sun goes down. Your fellow tourists on the other hand... cross the street if you see any.

Walk in the park. Try Pattaya on the 19th. Now that's madness! 55
