Still, easy to fix up, renovate and flip in the current housing market in Vancouver, could easily make your money back and get a bit extra on top.

Not in this market I wouldn't say its easy

It's in Dunbar so as prime as location as you can get.....for sure

The house you linked is likely what would be built

    All in 3.5mil

    You'd be right around that
Maybe you get lucky and flip it for high 3's

Depends on the neighbourhood. But there's always some Hong Kong Chinese looking to buy.

If it has a basement suite, could probably get away with renting just the suite for $1200-1500/month. For a 3br-4br on Dunbar St, anywhere from $3000-5000/month.

Beyond owning a place it's pretty affordable

And I still make way more money here than I would elsewhere

I'm pretty sure the house that burned down below mine was set on purpose. It was a lovely old home, but not up to the modern standards that so many WOMEN want. The whole estate is going to be built for multiple family dwellings... meaning inlaw suites, and the lovely old home would not be practical. My guess is the owner of the estate told his loser brother to just set it on fire. He was nowhere around when the fire started and he hasn't been back since.

Developers just tear down the old places and replace them with modern structures. Having this place "accidently" burn down saved the cost of doing it legally.

^^ The area that house was in, could probably 10 houses.. So maybe local government was in on the scheme?

On Google street view it looks like Arnhem road (Arnhem being a city in Holland btw) was always intended to be extended?

You think you can fit 10 houses on that plot?

Even if you meant apartments, it wouldn't be zoned for that type

Compared to plot sizes around, easily..

I am not going to post Google earth frames of Ian's back yard, but the area is bigger than what Ian's pic shows..

I was price shocked when I moved here and watched prices sky rocket for 10 years

Should have bought earlier! What kind of trader are you? 555

On the other hand, I bought my place in 2000, and by 2005 I was pretty convinced I could retire at 50..
But than Alan Greenspan happened (has he been indicted yet?) and now I am facing retirement at 90 if lucky..
