    Airbnb Experiences

I've been reading up on this and also did some searching around on Airbnb and looks great

Basically it is localized tours and events listed on Airbnb that you can book
But is seems more of a social media meetup than regular type tour bookings

I was looking at Havana Cuba because I might go solo in July if I can work out decent flights

    They have
    Nightlife
    Arts
    Food
    Nature

You can book food tours, join cycling rides, take dance classes, small music groups, bar crawls

The one bar crawl I was looking at was basically 3 younger Cuban guys in their late 20's meet up with whoever joins for that and they just take you out

    It all looks really cool

Man life is changing and it is all pretty damn cool

I'd be too worried where those three men might take me... 55

    But seriously... I would.
My only experience was in a pie making factory managing the gravy team

This will be a trip report I look forward to reading.

Every democrat should go to Cuba to see how communism screws a lovely people and country.

Worst country we have been to. It was 2005 admittedly, but people too scared to talk to us. Much much worse than Vietnam in late 80's.

Walk around Havana, not just the tourist crap, go to what's left of shops, see whats on sale, compare the prices with what locals are paid.

Some stunning architecture and great history, great place to experience a hurricane on "The Malecon" seafront in Havana. Waves going over 5 story buildings.

Just so glad to get back to Jamaica

Communism in Cuba is closer to Trump's fascism than Dem's liberalism.

    Yay. Another political thread 55

It's like you live in a make believe land

I don't want to make this a political thread but to suggest that any progressive policies favored by Democrats would lead to anything like Cuba is just living in a fantasy land created by Fox News

I live in a country that has the policies that right wing loons like yourself then compare to Cuba
But hey why compare countries that would be what those policies would actually be copying......
Nah.....let's go with the Fox News loon comparisons

There isn't a worry about that

TLH tends to post lunacy with very little reality attached to his posts
So when you fact check him he scurries away

So doubt this will turn into a political thread

But it does reflect real life

But that is the beauty of being on the social media platform of Airbnb
You see the people that are going on and been on the tours interacting
You see real time video in some instances

I've done one of these in Amsterdam. It's a perfect way to experience the local culture and meet new people.

Basically tours run by locals and not and not agencies who care to groups.

A light-hearted jibe provokes such vitriol?

I was really pointing out, that Cuba, where I had wanted to visit from the 60's, was such a disappointment to us both

In 2005 - when things were a lot harsher than today , and sore loser US government policy stopped Cubans from buying almost anything they couldnt make ? The longest trade embargo in world history..

"Starve em into OUR way - that'll teach em for not doing what we tell em !"

My brother and his muso friends went last year - they loved Cuba , and are planning to go again this year.

What can you tell us M26 about airbnb accommodation ?

    Do you mean in Havana??

    Pretty good
You can get a nice 1bdrm apartment in Old Havana for around 2k baht with nice balcony, feel like 50 years ago
One thing is there is always good reviews of the people who rent out the apartments and how they are there to take care if you need
They will usually make you breakfast for about 200baht

Overall I have had great Airbnb's all over the world

Although some places, Thailand especially, take the piss with the cleaning fee
A decent amount of places in Thailand charge you 6-8k baht cleaning fee!!

So most airbnb places list very competitive prices then hit you with expensive extras like cleaning fees? Bugger that.
Is there only the CF , or are there other hidden costs?

    Not all of them do
    Cuba is minimal

Thailand is one of the worst I have seen with exorbitant cleaning fees

I've also bargained down quite a few when I booked them close to the time I wanted to use them

cleaning fees/bonds/charging your card before you stay etc etc.....I have looked at using A.B+B a few times and when I have done the sums I have always ended up in a hotel...never used one..and TBH I like the services a hotel offers..especially room service if I don't want to face the world on any given day...
