I prefer to live in a village by the sea - then not so bored as living in an Isaan village with no farang-speak or medical facilities nearby.
The "family" mostly visit once a year and we go the Baan as necessary - my partner 2-3 times per year more than me.
But my active farming days are past me - horses for courses.

My Ban my sanctuary from Family and my ability to fit in? With rest of Moo Baan?

I prefer to live by the sea.
I always have lived near it.
Its basically a free recreational and exercise centre.
So my favourite place is Kamala, 15 mins north of Patong.
My tgf is from the opposite coast , 4 hours east , on The South China Sea.
Its pleasant enough there but I couldnt live there.

Ive driven to Korat and Udon and been to Chiang Mai , but with no aquamarine Andaman Sea , I would only holiday at any of them.
Even the SCS lacks the same appeal.

^ I`d say there`s always a premium on living near the sea, rent, food, transport etc
I really enjoy my freedom to move around LOS as i please. There`s many different places with many different reasons to stay a while.
Had the ball and chain of a mortgage and working for the man back home too long to do that while i am here.

same as Mai Chob. If not for the crystal clear waters and white sands of Thailand's coastal regions I would probably be living back in Australia on the north coast of NSW

Really liked that are of NSW the one and only time I visted there, it was about eight or nine years ago, and it was just about to have a growth explosion around near Lennox Head.

Bangkok as a base. Own there. Rent elsewhere we go.

In answer to the original question, I still do not know yet. Will be arriving for 6 months in 2015 ... paid sabatical ... but still do not know where I will settle for that time. The goal of the upcoming trips in the next couple of years is to help settle that question. Right now Chiang Mai (with the sadly missing ocean) and Hua Hin are the two front runners, but a lot of time to go, and other places still to see.
