    Advice on Vietnam: Da Nang

    Hi all,

Can see that this forum is not so popular yet. I am probably taking my first trip to Vietnam next june and would like to hear if some of you have been to any of these places and have pro / cons / advice:

    Ho Chi Minh
    Da Nang
    Hue
    Hoi An
    Nha Trang

It is certain that the trip will include HCM, Hoi An and Nha Trang but I am not sure about Da Nang. I have heard that it is nothing but big resorts on the beach (My Khe beach).

Hue should be a nice town but in doubt.

Hoi An is a great place...beautiful people, great food, very cheap, interesting art (e.g. silk), but was only a day trip so can't tell you much else.

Dah Nang is an airport to me.....useful for visiting Hue and Hoi An......all the other places mentioned are worth visiting especially Hoi An the jewel of Vietnam IMO....don't expect white sandy beaches and crystal clear blue water in nah trang but its an OK spot for a beach break...not bisiting hanoi?....I love the place

Thanks for both your input. I will probably not include Da Nang in my trip. I am surprised that Nha Trang beaches is not that beautiful but I hear that it should be worth getting a "haircut" ... if you know what that means (nudge, nudge, say no more ...).

So, bacwaan, what is it about Hanoi that you like ? Some people have the impression that Hanoi-people dont like westerns and see us all as americans. Eventually I will go to Hanoi but not this time

Bob:I was based in Nha Trang for 3 months as a diving instructor about 6 years ago ...the outer islands have reasonable water quality but to me the water quality on the mainland is similar to Hua Hin (that is to say better than pattaya but not a whole lot)

Hoi An has beaches of a similar quality to Nha Trang

on Hanoi.....I love that it is built around a central lake....it has wonderful specialist streets based on trades with tradesmen still working in them...fantastic restaurants....there is still a strong French influence....a much slower/gentler pace than HCMC and to me the people are way less interested in giving foreigners a hard time than in the much bustlier HCMC
