You wanna get laid? Or want a quiet sophisticated bar? 55

I was about to reply about the Diana hotel being a good choice, but after checking a new map of the area it seems many of the old places I remember are now gone. The Diana Garden hotel is not what I was thinking of. A good long walk should give you some idea of what you want.

I wasn't including your wife in the long walk to check out the territory.

Yes, I understand most Thai women's aversion to walking. 555

Soi 7 and 8 is not laid back... it's carnage... 55

Hard to think of anywhere laid back in Pattaya... maybe individual bars but not a whole area... you could try Jomtien?

Thanks, Ian. Last time I was in Pattaya was with Pui 5 years ago when she was still healthy. It was a nice laid back hotel with easy going staff and a couple of good pool tables. Occasionally they had good singers who provided a bit of entertainment. it wasn't a P4P bar that I could see, despite the attractive staff.

The Pattaya Beer Garden is OK I guess for a bar with a view and a pretty laidback vibe...there is enough going on there for a bit of people watching...and it's pretty pleasant sitting outside at the end of the pier with views out over the bay..I too am stumped to think of any decent smart bars outside of the Hilton Rooftop bar/Restaurant (and other hotel bars) which I would want to take my wife to..(if I had one these days..555)

Mind..I am not exactly a Patts officianado...I guess i get there every other year or so these days...but I will back in a couple of months to meet up with friends..

    We went to Soi 7
It’s like the Star Wars bar

Butt ugly girls and cheap old Charlie’s

But no one bugged us and we sat at a bar and enjoyed ourselves

Then I got the bright idea to go to Walking Street
I lasted 6mins and went back to Soi 7

Holy fcuk did Walking Street suck!!

    But to be honest
Pattaya from Dusit Thani to Soi 7 is pretty nice

From Dusit thani laid back beer bars would be drinking street, Lisa bar and the cocktail bar in between (don't know the name..).
All walking distance and plenty of choice barwise..

And for your wife, there are a bunch of Thai style places on third road north towards Naklua that are the life music / plenty of food / bottle service only,
I love those kind of venues, but not for everyone (only Thai music)..

Just ask motobike taxi, they know them all..

Compared to that cesspool of Walking Street it is!

I've never been to Mogadishu but I'd imagine it's very similar 5555

Soi 7 is a row of bars with loud music.... I see it as a cheap version of Walking Street... 55

The pub Elephant and Castle or something isn't bad though. If it's still there.

You can find crowds everywhere, even in Vancouver. I don't like crowds and I stay out of central Chiang Mai on weekend nights because it turns into a senseless zoo. Masses of people pushing past each other to see WHAT? The same old crap you can buy at any market?

I took Pui to see walking street at night and she loved it. But then Pui loved anything we did together, and she had never seen before. There were jugglers, actors, prostitutes and pimps, ladyboys in crazy costumes, masses of tourists pushing and shoving, and crazy music blaring at you from all directions. But, once or twice is enough. After that it gets boring.

I'm more of a doer than a watcher, and I have no interest in going into any of the bars or clubs along walking street. For me it is a waste of money. I would rather go into a nice quiet bar with friends and play pool or talk. I'm partially deaf and can't heat what people are saying in a noisy bar playing loud music that is competing with loud music coming from elsewhere.

Did you walk past Hard Rock Cafe/Hotel on Beach Rd? it's 4 blocks south of soi 6.

it has a cabana bar next to the pool and looking to the beach.

Usually a DJ with latest funky music, a bit loud for my liking but it is a more slightly up market and younger clientele.

Close to where you are, ...Drinking Street if you just want a load of bars and pool tables, no view.

Or on 2nd Rd between Soi 1 and 4 there are bunches of bar complexes. There's a night club on corner of Soi 3 or might be 4 can't remember the name.

Along your end of Beach Rd there is a nice up market dining in open air across from the beach, I think it might be A One Royal Cruise.
It's the Hotel built in the shape of a cruise ship. If it isn't that one then it is just a bit down the road.

From just below the Dusit Thani is Holiday Inn and Amaria and then a string of big hotels
Almost everyone had a nice big open patio outside and not busy on the street

That stretch down to Hard Rock is very nice, IMO
