POO-KET: Disgusting brown water plagues Brit holiday hotspot

A SUMMER holiday hotspot for Brits has been plagued by poo-coloured seawater washing up on the beach.

Hundreds of thousands of Brits flock to Thailand every year to lap up the country’s sun and nightlife.
But Karon Beach on the west coast of Phuket has been hit by accusations that sewage has seeped into the water.
Tourists snapped the turgid brown water just off the picturesque coast.
    FACEBOOK

Karon Municipality Works chief, Wanchai Saetan, denied that the water’s colour was being caused by waste and that it was natural.
He said: “It is not about wastewater. It’s only plankton, which happens every year in monsoon season.
“The geography of Karon Beach is conducive to this, and some people are suspicious of other reasons, such as wastewater and oil, because they never have seen it before.

He added: “I have previously had water samples taken from this area tested by Phuket Rajabhat University, and they proved that it is red plankton.

    That would be a shame

Karon was always my favorite beach in Phuket

And coming down the hell from Patong and seeing that beautiful blue water was always something I liked

It would take a hell of a lot of sewerage to change the colour of the ocean. Probably more than Phuket could produce. I doubt it's waste material. Hopefully not anyway.
Not one shred of evidence supports the notion that life is serious.

Could well be plankton - we have the same thing happen every year here.

Looks like sh1t, but it's actually not - although being Thailand, nothing should be surprising !

It's probably coral spawn - looks and smells like shit but quite normal in tropical regions.

See here for more info > http://biology.pkru.ac.th/staff/thanongsak/Coral.pdf

Typical of British gutter press to print a load of sh1t.
    Cheers, Rob.

Meanwhile in the gulf of Siam ..

Military stick the boot in after raw sewage floods Koh Phangan

The Thai military swung into action Sunday to make the Koh Phangan authorities act over sewage polluting the island.
Pictures had appeared online with dozens of complaints from locals that raw sewage was flowing into the sea in the Ban Thong Sala area of the holiday island in South Thailand.
Reporters from Thai Rath went beaches there and found it stank with filthy, foaming, black water messing up many parts of the local area.
Some spots were being used by tourists, they said.
Locals told them they had been complaining about it for ages, but the local authority did very little to address the problem. It was now getting critical.
On hearing the news local army commander Thanongsak Permsanam took a contingent of soldiers to investigate and he was clearly not happy with the inaction.
He is now telling the local authority to get their collective fingers out and do something about the pollution quickly.

Honestly what's wrong with these idiots why can't they take care of the environment?

I remember a few years ago there was a similar occurrence on Koh Samui. Same brown looking slick stuff. Not sure what it was in the end but lots of TV detectives were adamant it was waste.
