I do believe he was joking.
Not one shred of evidence supports the notion that life is serious.

Your punctuation and use of capitals could also use some work ..... 5555

Absolutely - just like your Mom demanded manners from you - was that "weird"?

No. It did not compute with most the family Thais that this was respectful.
    Outsiders- sure.

Surely you've had the experience where you are talking to a Thai, you get distracted/take a drink and they've gone leaving you on your own, without a word, only to return sometime later?

    ?
    wow
i am suprised at that Baz
i honestly thought they would have addressed you coming and going, so if i were you i would have let them know too, especially if young ones. especially given your age/status

i have Thais coming and going out of the house and sometimes i think they are too deferential, to be honest

My wife, when saying bye on the phone always says something in Thai that is obviously a good-bye

    It almost sounds like "Canada"

    anyone have a clue?

Most of the time they're just automatically parroting stuff. So I wouldn't read too much into it.
So when she sms me, "I miss u big dcik", it was just a ploy?

Ive also noticed that and found it strange. I thought maybe it was just an American Tv thing.

The other common thing I hear is "I worry about you" it is said nonchalantly IMHO.... like a bless you for a sneeze. Not the literal meaning.
"Man cannot discover New Oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore"

aaahhh... I must admit I am a little relieved... quite a few say that to me... "I worry about you, you're strange".

Had me worried for a while! But glad they don't mean it..

Mmm, I got the "I worry You" and "Don't worry me" which got me confused until I realised the 'about' was missing; over the phone she made a big song about meeting me in Suvarnabhumi but when she did she was quite demure, like she did not know how to greet (until I said I wanted to go to the loo and she offered to come and b++m b++m there and then). When I take her to her Baan, her Family hardly look up, no hugs & kisses etc only seen them do that to babies but she asked me not to kiss or show affection to her in front of neighbours; later I had to retort when she started sneaking a kiss to me in public!
