    Thanks Trevor....
Ayuthuya has been one of my most memorable places within the Kingdom, and like your title says 'Places you absolutely must visit'....
I spent roughly 2 days there and had a car which made it easy to get around, I would have seen around 90% of the sights.... I was amazed at how close you could get to all the buildings, in a western country you wouldn't be allowed within 20m in Ayathuya you can feel the workmanship on the bricks... Wherever you go within the city you will spot remnants of the ancient city, I was sitting in a restaurant and the front wall was made from the common small red bricks you see in the chedi's... In between the modern buildings you will see parts of chedi's poking out of the ground and even within the playground of one of the local schools.
If I ever return to Ayathuya I would probably do the journey from BKK on a boat up the Chao Praya river, although probably the longest way to journey to the city but I'm guessing one of the most scenic......
Put it on your 'Must Do' list people!..... great place to learn about ancient Siam.

Brilliant stuff PBB, you are so correct with all of your observations. I must admit I love the sound of doing the trip from BKK on a boat up the Chao Praya river. Now that's going on my list. Thanks PBB.
