Yes, they came from the next village over. There are fascinating documentaries on it.

No as I said Boston doesn't really have that issue

Most places I go to have been around longer than the 35-40yrs I've been going to them

This pizza place will likely re-open somewhere

I remember my parents were on a weekend away in London and were staying in shoreditch. They rang me and said they were having a lovely little dinner in a quaint little Portuguese chicken restaurant. When they told me it was called Nandos I didn’t have the heart to tell them. I love the independent restaurants.

There is an Italian restaurant down the road from me where the Italian chef will come out and talk with every table, will offer to make up dishes that aren’t on the menu and will have a shot of limoncello with every table before they leave. He loves his job and is a local legend. His food is to die for and everything so fresh. I worry that as rents increase it could push businesses like him out.

So, do you get a choice in what you want to put in your mouth, Lew? 5555

The handles on the fork and spoon seem to be conveniently placed.

Last night I had "slop"... but it was good slop. I was too lazy to make a big meal, but I still had some left over chicken and rice soup that was very thick, some sweet peppers, a tomato, some mushrooms that had stayed too long in the fridge, and about a pound of ground beef. I fried up the beef in a pan with some spices, and then added everything else. As a flourish I added an egg and some extra sharp cheddar cheese on top. DAMN, that was a good meal! Best thing I've eaten in about a week.

All the best fish and chip shops in Melbourne in my days were run by Greeks .

    Back on track ....

Jo and I frequently enjoy Greek souvlaki with a traditional Feta salad ...

Chicken souvlaki [skewers] are easy: breast meat, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice and heaps of oregano. Marinate well.

In Thailand it can be difficult to find ingredients for a Greek salad though Caroline Feta Cheese [Thai made], is now available nationally and is as good or better than most imports. [Note: Never ever substitute with 'Danish Fetta' .... it's salty crap!]

Kalamata olives cannot be substituted ... green ones get a 30% pass, black .... never ever!
Kalamata olives are available from the Deli in VillaMart and Rimping tho I always bring stocks back from Oz [or Greece].

    Cheers, Rob.

On a trip to Paris with my friend we sat at outside a small cafe/bar . We ordered beers and were given a small plate of olives with each beer. My friend hates them so he passed them on to me. A few beers later I’d lost count how many olives I had eaten 555. I love olives.
