Pea eggplant are easy to grow and we always have plenty in our garden - Jo's green curry is to die for, all home-grown ingredients except for the chicken and coconut. She insists on using wing drumsticks cut in half as the bone adds flavour (?) and we buy freshly made coconut milk at market for a superior flavour. Never ever use canned stuff again ... evaporated milk a good alternative.

Growing all the necessary herbs and being able to use fresh 100% organic really makes a huge difference. Having said that, 7-11's green curry is a good standby if in a hurry ... flavour is very authentic, better than most restaurants!

I was too tired for human interaction this evening so I thought I l'd pop into the supermarket and buy some meats and stuff. Went wine hunting after and did my usual rummage to see if any hidden gems had been orphaned behind other bottles and sure enough I found the last of a nice batch. 20 bucks later and back in loom with a little ham and salami, couple of slices of cheese and a smooth drop of merlot and that's me happy.

One perk a shithole like Kalgoorlie has is the fact that a lot of mining big wigs swing through it, so there are often good international chefs in town. I had this pork belly two night in a row. Pure blackmagic fuckery as far as I'm concerned, by a Spanish chef at the York Hotel. It had spices I couldn't identify and the way he had cooked the onions just blew me away. I'm here for another week so I'll probably end up having it a few times.

I became a pasta convert only recently with "Daddys Antiques" White Truffle and Smoked Bacon" > doesn't photograph well but oh boy, the flavours shine thru to delight the senses with each mouthful. Pasta is home made >

Their salmon dish looks prettier and tastes superb but pales in comparison to the above >

Daddys Antiques is at Mae Hia, almost adjacent Roses Pizza and Ribs Roadhouse on the 3029 ring road.

    Touche!

For myself I don't care. I'm quite happy with a 40 baht meal. But, for a lady who might appreciate such places it is a different story. Right now I am seeing a Taiwanese lady from Cairns, Australia. She would appreciate such a place.

Not quite 80.... 79 year old 3 weeks ago. But yes, I would qualify "numerically" as and old bugger . 555

I've been cooking pasta before you were born, and experimenting with many different recipes... some of which I like and a few that I would just tolerate. I've never had guests at my home that didn't ask for second helpings. That is good enough for me.

My younger sister (who died 2 years ago) traveled the world in search of new recipes. She wrote 4 best seller cook books on the subject. It sort of runs in the family. You can Google my sister's name... Leslie Forbes... A taste of Tuscany, A seat in Provence, On the Spice trails, and others.
