Wow and I have it about 3x per week!

    Japanese food isn't that expensive

People like Fuji in Thailand but I would call that a good mall Japanese

    Not proper
Although I am sure around Soi Cowboy there is some amazing Japanese places

I'm real surprised as well. As a foodie I thought you would have had loads of it. Japanese food is among some of the most subtle and tasty stuff there is. 90% of what passes for sushi though is the equivalent of people thinking western food is all hamburgers. Real sushi is made right there in front of you.

You need to go to a high end Japanese restaurant with someone who knows the food well and experience it properly. Unless you're not partial to raw fish, which is fine. It is a bit of an acquired taste.

Depending on the restaurant and quality is can be expensive though. You pretty much want your fish to have been swimming in the ocean the day before or the night before.

I'm not a fan of sushi or sashimi...Ok for a snack but it just ain't a meal for me

I like the the cooked food best..noodles and rice dishes...like Ramen, Udon + Soba with soups..Unagi (eel) Karei (curries) , yakitori, Gyudon, etc all served over rice...Gyozas are great for a snack too...and I just love those savoury custards (Chawanmushi) which are hard to get outside of Japan...

hmm...we've got a decent Japper joint within a stones throw from my house here..and its a gret showery day..might have to soba noodle it for my dinner

I've been to ROKA which award winning. It was mostly sushi and you know what? I thought it tasted like shit. 555

Apart from that the only Japanese food I've had is either Wasabai and Wagamama, both of which can probably be described as mc-franchise type places.

I do like the Thai noodle soup bowls so reckon I'd enjoy a ramen. I've bookmarked this place Kazan in Patong for next time I'm in bkk. Have it on good authority this is one of the best places to get ramen in Bkk.

When I went to Tokyo it was probably the most excited I've been to visit somewhere in all my travels
    And I did love it

But I was very underwhelmed by the food because I literally have it outside my front door, everywhere

From my living room I can look down at the Izakaya I go to
The best and busiest ramen place in Vancouver is right next door

I'd say Japanese is my #1 Asian food to eat.

Ramen has hit my town in full force. There are three places in a three block radius. And this is a small town.

Traditional And New Styles Of Ramen - Uchiwa Ramen

    This place is the best.

When my sister was in Vancouver she refused to eat Ramen

I told her is was basically chicken noodle soup!

I've never been to Japan. Is this the sort of thing they actually eat over there or is this mostly put together to cater to the gaijin taste? I know Japanese consume more soupy dishes than anything. Similar to a lot of Asia in fact. Never seen Japanese people eating this deep fried stuff in restaurants. I don't mind it in very small portions, a bite or two. I find the fat sits heavy in my stomach and makes me feel sick. I always found fish and chips quite disgusting as well, but I know most people love it. I eat a lot of animal fat and I love it, but deep fried stuff is just nasty 55.

I'd happily share a bento box though never order one for myself. Like M26 I don't always enjoy too much tempura fried or sushi with crab stick and other cheap fillings ... though wasabi does make it taste better.

Good Jappo ramen is really tasty, and nutritious like a home-made Thai tom yum, though many mall-style outlets fail in the nutrition area.

We enjoy Fuji at least twice a month, sashimi entree followed by a nice dish as below ...

Miso soup [covered] is a favourite plus they serve complimentary sweet/coffee with most sets.

Fuji's sashimi [or seared tuna as below] is always fresh, best quality we've had up in the north ...

    Cheers, Rob.
