    Dodgy Kiwis ....

New Zealand Pair Arrested on Arrival on Phuket Over Unpaid Lunch Bill - Phuket Wan

PHUKET: Two New Zealand men who arrived at Phuket International Airport last night found themselves arrested immediately over a meal they consumed on the Thai holiday island two years ago.

Father and son Brian Russell Finn and Luke Russell Finn were being held at a police station in Patong today in advance of a court appearance that could see them fined or jailed.

According to officers from Kathu Police Station, the pair ate lunch at the Blue Marine Resort and Spa on September 5, 2013, but left without paying.

On September 27 that year, the police obtained arrest warrants. By then, the Finns had left Thailand.

When the pair stepped off a flight at Phuket airport at 10.30pm last night, Immigration officials noted that both were on the blacklist and held them until officers from Patong arrived to escort them to the police station.

Two years is a long time for the bill to be presented for a meal. In that time, the resort has changed management and is now the Centara Blue Marine Resort and Spa.

The men are likely to face Phuket Provincial Court today.

Phuketwan called the New Zealand Embassy to check whether envoys had been made aware of the case and was told to call a number for the media in New Zealand.

Not sure what proof the restaurant had .... maybe the Kiwis thought it would be safe after two years .... 5555

My guess is they were drunk and didn't even know they left without paying.

Just shows Thai's and all countries have systems in place to catch you if you break the law, doesn't matter how long it takes.

I would think the cops took the CCTV and loaded their photo on the system, you know how when you arrive Immigration takes a photo of you at the counter, you have to stand in the two foot spots.

Well that goes into the system.

Dad's a failed earthmoving contractor ... amazing given Auckland's prolonged building boom.
    Cheers, Rob.

    ^ PP number,name and nationality...too easy!!
they would have either stayed at the place or somewhere nearby where they had a photocopy of a PP/s.

no way they'd be using immigration pic resources to catch a sandwich thief 55

    15k baht apparently!!

What was that famous Finn Brothers (Split Enz) song - One Step Ahead ! These Finns were, until they decided to head back to LOS 55

Which reminds me of another Fin song that could deemed appropriate, That Was My Mistake

Here is my spin on it ..

Remove Dodgy from your title SE and insert Typical ...

My ex business partner and i ran a company in the building industry here in Aus for 13 years, and after 13 years we had a total of 1 bad debtor for $1000.00, it was a builder that went bust ... many of our domestic customers paid before we were even finished the job..

After 13 years my partner moved home to NZ, and started the same type of business, within 3 years he had $36,000 in bad debtors, spread over a multitude of domestic and commercial clients .... one guy didn't pay a $9K bill after having all the work done on his home, part of this was my partners fault, for being too easy and thinking he was still in Aus.

All the clients not paying weren't Chinese or SA or any other nationality, they were all born and breed kiwis ....

As much as i am proud of my heritage as being resourceful, innovative and generally a friend lot amongst other things, there are some parts i am not so proud of, and how to take advantage or rip someone off is one of them.

Aussies always had a old saying ... a fair days work for a fair days pay, and this rang true for all my time in the building industry ...

Not so i believe across the ditch ..
