    Chinese Tiki Bars/Restaurants

I don't know if popular in other places but these are my absolute favorite restaurants from growing up in my area.

    Cheesy Chinese Polynesian Tiki restaurants.
They were always in the suburbs, have a great bar and usually end up being a local dive hangout .

The restaurant pictured in the article is a Boston institution. Had 1200 seats and is full every night.
Pretty much every time I meet you with old friends from high school it is at Kowloon.

But whenever and wherever I travel in US, if there is an old Chinese Tiki bar I am there.

There is an old great one in Portland I dragged Dupree to 555

    Hi Guys

What was the name of the bar in Portland? I spent a couple of years there, I wasn't looking for that type of bar while I was there but it sounds like a good recommendation next time I take a trip back there

To be honest, I'd say it's trying to be like one of those places in the link I posted.....
But it's not a Chinese food place and for some reason, The Chinese Tiki restaurants just have this whacky authentic in-authentic vibe that I didn't get with Alibi.

    Still a great place though

I think in general chinese here in aus has decreased in popularity a lot, its all Thai now, they out number the Chinese restaurants by triple, ...

Not even sure if we have many or at all these Tiki restaurants ??

Western chinese and all its msg leaves me thirtsy and not felling to well ..5555 ... not that i eat it anymore, maybe it changed ..

Yum Cha from a proper chinese restaurant in the city (china town ) however can be a lot better experience, steam not fried etc ... eat were the chinese are eating and you are half way there ..
The only thing that will stop you from fulfilling your dreams is you.

That is certainly true in NYC on 9th Ave
For 20 blocks it was all Chinese and now all Thai and Issan.

And Chinese in North America is different everywhere.
Chinese in Boston is just a glob of thick, fried food but can be awesome from time to time.

Drive 4 hours and it is totally different with being a bit more light.

In Vancouver, we have more of the Hong Kong style steamed type Chinese halls

I like them all for different reasons

Yup, just basically an appetizer platter....

Although that is a bit more fancy than what you'd see at a Boston place 555

And I'd say that now Vietnamese are actually replacing Thai places!!

Way more new Vietnamese places open than Thai places both here in Vancouver and in a lot of cities in US

Thats very differnet to the land of OZ. My good wife, asked me to explain Stralya day to her as she was perplexed with it deeply.

I pondered long and hard to get my head around the question, after much anxst I got something she could work with- my thai is only tinglish and so is my anglish.

I explained to her, it's kinda like sonkran in the Kingdom. The difference being its all compressed(like a mortadella) into oneday, no water; only beer, rum and monkey's blood.

Then as the sun hots up and they have watered their yeasted up throuts. They fire up extravagant ping and burn $1.99 woolies or coles snags(like hell money in HK)...........to their various "gods".

In the evaning, the men vommit the foul tasting meats(??????), they sleep and their wifes clean up the mess.

Then they text their masters the next day and say they are "pysk".

The ones that don't even text, get sent to centerlink in a months time.

Its not an old custom at all.
