    Update: Visa Situation

So I wound up taking a ****ty van to Malaysia which I'll never ever do again..

    Anyway..

Used 1 Tourist Visa *Only 2 Days of it* (Issued from U.S.)

Used 2nd Tourist Visa *90 Days* (Issued from Singapore)

Using 3rd Tourist Visa *90 Days* (Issued from Malaysia)

    My question is...

If I were to go home when this Tourist Visa ends...how long should I stay in the U.S. until I can apply for another one from home?

    3 months?

    How long until it 'resets'

A lot of the current visa regulations came about when news did the rounds in the international press that Thailand was the number one bolt hole for criminals on the run and that because of the levels of corruption in the country it was easy for these undesirables to stay in Thailand. To address this Thailand made it harder to get visas in neighboring countries forcing people to return to their home countries to get visas. The thinking behind this was if folks can return to their own countries they must be clean. So there are little or no restrictions on obtaining visa if you go home.

^ one loophole...if you`re married or over 50 and got money doesn`t really weed the crims out but the rest makes sense.

People can also overstay as long as they can.

I wonder how the recently jailed Phuket expat murderer manged to stay so long?

I remember noticing new regulations being introduced after the story made the rounds and put 2 and 2 together. I never said it had been thought through by those introducing the changes, but what ever is here 555.

I know people here who are on years of overstay, one guy just got 5 years overstay cleared without leaving the country by a well connected lawyer. As always here there are ways round everything if you know the right people and pay a bribe.

Well if you don't know enough to get re-entry permits so you don't waste a TV for 2 days use - you need to get off your dot, read up, and have an intelligent conversation from a base of knowledge.
We have newbies like you asking the same questions every day - boring.
That's why there is a visa section.

When I applied for the Non O at KL last month I was handed a printed sheet with the requirements. Number one on the list was you had to be a national of or legally registered as a resident in the country you apply in. I read that as you must go back to your own country to apply for the Non O. I have never heard of this before and I didn't actually properly read the list of requirements until later so had no chance to ask. Big question mark over that one.

There seems to have been a tightening up on giving Non-Immi "O"s even in your home country.
The days of walking into the Perth Consulate at any age, from any country, showing a copy of any TG's I.D., and getting a one year, multiple entry "O" have gone.
An OZ retiree, who lives in Tasmania, was told last week that the Melbourne consulate no longer issued "O"s (3 months max. before) and he had to apply in Sydney!
