    Need a visa label?

Does your sweetie need a visa label in her thai passport?

The official line is you don't need one, but not everyone agrees.

Up to today you would pay $70.00 to get the "Stamp" in her passport.

From tomorrow that will be $150.00

So something that not so long ago used to cost nothing now costs $150.00

From memory, I think that's actually more than Thailand charges for an actual passport renewal.

Visa labels. Don't leave home without one.
And where the hell was Biggles.....?....when you needed him last Saturday....?

    Isn't it all E-lec-tronic?
    Cheers, Rob.

As far as Commonwealth Government departments like immi are concerned, when re-entering Australia it is not required.
Problem seems to be others aren't always singing from the same hymn sheet when it comes to producing suitable ID.

When Madam has come here, when her PP comes back from the Embassy ( in BKK) there has been a slip in her PP saying that her visa is being held electronically, by Immigration Computers, at all ports of entry to Australia...

Whilst only a 2 year novice, I never understood the fuss. The visa is recorded electronically and you receive a piece of paper with all the details that can then be shown to the immigration of countries that you are passing through. The paper looks "official" compared with the first one which was handwritten and stapled into the passport.

Some of the alternatives to having a "visa label" that are being suggested are.
1: Carry a copy of your visa letter as well as your passport.
2: If you get a new passport, carry the old one (With the label in it) as well.

My missus has never had a visa label on the 3 times she has entered Australia, we have carried the letter but never asked to see it. With her latest Visa there is an attached letter that states Visa Labels are no longer used and she is registered on their computer system.

If you have to carry a letter to check-in with airlines or pass through Immigration in other countries in transit why not put a stamp in the passport.
    What's the difference?
    It can still activated electronically.

Let me say again, for the record, you don't need a visa label to pass through immigration.
You may find you later need one for identification purposes in other Non Commonwealth government departments.
As a "Tourist" you are unlikely to encounter these situations.

Know that, been there, done that.

BUT my points above are still valid.
The passport is in front of them - surely it takes no longer to print and affix a visa label than to type and print a letter with the same details.
As well as encrypt the visa.
It is useful for other purposes.
