Getting correct info and working out if I have it right.

Ok I thought this would be an easy thing to clear up but immigration gave me a pretty elastic answer which smacked of money grabbing.

MW has been here for more than 5 years and will need a 155-157 return visa on next trip 375+4.95 for the privilege cheers to that one.....

So I thought I might check to see if little one would need this though she has been here for only 3 years....

I ring I ask and the answer is to be safe you should or might speed you up through immigration....Not yes you need or no you dont!

For the life of me I cant find any clear answer...

So this is my reasoning..Permanent resident visa is for 5 years (indefinite if you never leave) she has been here for 3 odd and has a do not enter after oct 2020 on vevo.

That would be 5 years so has anyone else come up upon this?

    Any help gladly received.

I have no personal knowledge but if I interpret your details correctly, the resident visa allows for (exit &) re-entry until 2020. Beyond 2020 the kid would need a 155-157 RETURN visa. The same RETURN visa requirement applies to any resident other than Australian and NZ passport holders. Many Brits, for example, have been caught out with this requirement.
    Cheers, Rob.

^^I did not even know it was a thing until one of MW's friends was caught in Los with her daughter.
I argued once you were permanent that was it.....And you have to go digging as it is not widely advertised.
And then asking for the right answer from the department that should know and getting no clear answer other than to save confusion spend the money...

Speak to airport immigration if possible, after all they enforce the rules.

Good luck wabbits and people think Los is hard to get along with. The people you are talking to, if you can actually talk to them are on $50k a year and have a good laugh in their coffee cup every time you call them incompetent, Nothing to answer your OP sorry

Its a simple question one I thought would be easy to get a clear answer too....But your right they are not held accountable at the end of the day so it more luck of the draw getting someone that wants to help.

This may or may not be right up my alley so to speak.

Permanent residency, once granted gives the visa holder indefinite stay in Australia and the ability to come and go from Australia for 5 years from the date of grant. After this the visa holder needs to apply for a resident return visa (RRV) if they wish to leave Australia (and return), which as the name says, gives the right to return to Australia.

To be granted a RRV, the visa holder must have substantial ties to Australia, meaning you have lived in Australia for 2 out of the last 5 years or have demonstrate substantial ties to Australia that are of benefit to Australia (being lazy and copying here)

So you partner's daughter 5 years start from her grant date.

    Hope this helps.

If she been in Australia 2 out of the last 5 years its granted automatically via computer, if "the computer says no" it will take about 12 weeks.
