    Ordering dinks in Thailand

I just returned from a successful mongering adventure in Pattaya with a short stint in Patong. As usual meal service was an odyssey with usually one of our party getting the complete shaft...

I ordered a Gin and Tonic with a slice of lime. This caused all sorts of confusion with different staff members returning to me to confirm as they don't hab limes. Apparently they call limes lemons...

Another order of mine was Jack Daniels on the Rocks. A GoGo girl who I thought was a server, as she was dressed in a business skirt outfit, reiterated my order to a Bull Dike waitress. She brought me a Jack and a very flat Coke. When I said it was wrong there was a huge uproar with the Dike taking the drink back and returning it uncorrected. Then another uproar and finally my order...

A few years ago I ordered a Vodka and lime and the waiter brought me a Bacardi Breezer with a full plate of sliced limes...

On Ko Phayem I asked if my previous hamburger order was still on and the waitress returned with a bottled water...

It's a good thing I was rooting regularly or I might have gone Postal..55
I just girl in bar. Buy me one dink?....

I ordered a Bloody Mary once in Pattaya. Mary appeared, but said it was the wrong time of the month.

It took about 20 minutes... and many girls coming back with all sorts of odd drinks. And then finally an angelic looking girl appeared with a proper Bloody Mary complete with Tabasco Source and celery... I was so impressed I bar fined her on the spot...

    No such problems drinking beer

Actually a lemon i got with a feed at Chiang Dao last night had a real lemon with juice oozing from it as opposed to those just about dry little green suckers!

I like the ones who aren't afraid to give up and take the direct approach .... more than once the service staff have taken me over to the bar (or out to the kitchen to the cook) so I can relay my order in person ...

    Enjoy...

Dunno but have changed it to "dinks" if that's what you were referring to? Maybe I should put speech marks in so no one changes it again... 55

Im always amazed how an order of "Coke" can lead to so much confusion.
I mean its not as if it sounds like Singha , or Tiger or Sang Som or even Bacardi for that matter...
The waitress would have to have heard , nay , even drank the product before.

Its all in the pronuncitaion in the end , but.
A simple 'coke' said in any plain way is just WRONG.

You have to say "CAWWWK!!" to get that lovely black bubbly beveridge.

Also Chob... "Vodka and Coke" will often get a blank expression.... has to be "VokkaCawwwk" ...the "and" throws them... 55

We were dining at Perbacco, a good Italian place in Pattaya. But of course serviced by challenged Thai waitresses. Someone wanted a pizza with an extra item on it. After a lot of pointing on the menu they brought him a spaghetti carbonara...55
