How I spend most Thai nights

I spend most of my evenings in Thailand with Aussies. Great bunch of guys and gals. The Down Under pub in Chiang Mai is the best pub in town for several reasons: it's friendly, it's big enough for several different groups, the music isn't too loud, prices are reasonable, there are separate televisions for a variety of interests, and the owners (Stewart and Noi) are great people. Friday nights on the roof are special.

    My D-Tracker bike sitting outside

Gig does the roof top barbeque... Pork ribs and first rate sausages. 40 baht a hotdog.

And there's a great view from the roof during festivals and New Years.

It is THE place to be on New Years when all the EXPENSIVE hotels set off their fireworks. The whole sky gets lit up.

Australia Day is one big party! Everyone but me gets a little drunk.

And the pool table is one of the best in town.

Great photo's Forbsey, yet to do Chiang Mai, Rivo keeps telling me I have to get there, and will when time permits, and Downunder Bar will be one of the first port of calls.

I played around on Google maps the other day looking at distance but trying to fit it in with a road trip to Baan and Phuket on next trip, might just run out of time

The Down Under bar is right at the foot of Loi Kroh road, just before the one way iron bridge over the Ping River. I think Stewart said he was going to be closed over Loy Krathong festival for about a week. Only the crazies want to be in Chiang Mai during Loy Krathong water festival.

I was in chiangmai in January. But never made it to the Aussie bar. The one night I was in the area I tried to find it by remembering the location on the website map. I turned west at the Burger king instead of east and got waylaid if you get my drift...maybe next January I'll try to get there again..i'LL take my GPS/smart phone with me.lol

Looks like a good scene...just what I like actually.. a crowd of friendly falang guys and friendly Thai gals.not that I have anything against falang women or Thai guys....;-)

Bangladesh won the Cup, again. They are real athletes
My boys the Darwin Dilettantes won the Plate final, they also had top scorer for the Tournament.
It was great to see so many local expats lapping up the picnic atmosphere for the 7 days.
