    Booze Free Holiday, May 24th

Just a reminder that it's a Buddhist holiday on the 24th (Friday).

Bars will be closed. So book your dates now and stock up for Friday.

There was a sticky with those dates on PI. It would be nice to have that here as well

Nothing in June as far as I know. There's a few in July (22 & 23) for Buddhist Lent.

Oh no.....one entire day without Grog - will we survive? I know this makes me sound like a right royal ****** but seriously does this not sound rather bizarre to anyone else?

A day of fasting? I mock thee not...

Bars may be 'closed' but grog is still freely available ... and I'll be in the baan, every day's a holiday in deepest darkest Isaan.
    Cheers, Rob.
Lifes journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well-preserved body, but to skid in sideways totally worn out, shouting: holy s.h.i.t what a ride!

Although I dislike the alcohol banned days, I must say it has made for a few special nights..
If you look around, you will always be able to find a bar that doen'st follow the rules and where you can drink your drink in a tea cup or something..
Creates a bit of a highschool atmosphere when the alcohol starts kicking in.. like a secret drinking club..555

In Samui the party just moves down to the beachside restaurant/bars........no coyote dancing but a lot of the girls take a place at the bars down there in hope

Usually Chang Club (a pool hall) in Patong (end of Soi Sansabai) will be packed around midnight to the wee hours in the morning. I'm not sure about this one though being that it's the Buddha's birthday. But bars on Bangla will be closed. I don't think they'd do the lights off no music sipping "coffee" in the dark, 555

Some girls may or may not be locked away in a temple too, 555

I've been back in Canada for 8 weeks and I've yet to have an alcoholic drink since I've been home. The Thai bars I frequent would go broke with customers like me if I didn't buy the odd lady drink for the girls.

I have no idea of what holiday it was, but I was in Phuket at the end of August/beginning of September last year and whatever it was lasted for about 3 days.
Is funny you mention organising your entertainment etc in advance, I was told the same thing when I arrived in Phuket and found out about the 3 days no booze and had no problem finding someone. It was the getting rid after that was the problem at the end of the 3 days 555.
That sort of did not happen and ended up staying for the rest of my trip (although I did manage to escape to Kamala Aussie Pub for the quiz night), even tried to get a trip Samui with me, but that was never going to happen 5555.

I had a similar experience when a Buddhist holiday merged with elections resulting in a 3 day no booze drought. I never enjoyed the drinking from T-Pots and t-cups thing. Somehow it didn't taste the same. The Bars in Karon pulled the shutters half way down and left the lights off inside. You ended up limbo dancing into the bar and stumbling round half blind.....never taken so long to finish a game of Pool.
