    Trouble on border

Just had my wife who is up on the border ring me in a panic!
Seems the fighting is very close.
They are thin**** its time to move the family out and head for BKK for a little while.
Said this was a very good idea as it is likely to simmer for a little longer!!

Well the trouble has progressed In wifes village and everyone has been evacuated some 100 kms away as shelling has occurred and the government has told them to get out.
So far no family members hurt but as some members of the family are involved in the military it may not stay that way.

^Yea but what a way to take your mind off it.....
Good thing is if it is a good thing ha ha is that if she was here i think she would be on a plane heading back as we speak.
There has not been trouble where her village is for a very long time though she said there has always been areas towards the Camo border she said they all stayed away from '2km from village.

Through the grape vine of Mrs W i hear that the numbers of dead are some what more than has been reported!!! 10 plus.
She has said that some family have gone back to village briefly to get some important stuff, then everyone is off to Bangkok as they have been told that they most likely will not becoming back for awhile.....wonder how long that is?
Just spoke to her and its the most concerned i think i have ever heard her.

Mrs W did not sleep a wink last night i got about 5 sms so i know she is worried.
The men are armed about 80% in village your brother is coming back to the thick of it and your told not to use your mobile to much as the Cambodians can triangulate and may attack a large mobile hot spot.

Well that made me sleep better.....not.

Mrs W has not really slept 2 nights now...quite worried and she sounds like she has had toooo many red bulls.
Makes me very uneasy about her safety and gives me an insight to how most of her family are most likely feeling.

Funny not the first time in our relationship we have had outside danger involved!
She had to flee Sukumvit during the red shirt crap....we had laugh about that!!!

Did the visa office close as well as the embassy?

We were living in Soi 22 close to rama 4 sorta in the middle of it all.
Joys friends who have a little reasturant were stuck in it with no power, 200bt as ATM's no power.
Only water beer(warm) rice and eggs.

we stayed in the Banyan Tree right next to the Embassy..... they closed the visa office for the week and placed the whole city under curfew... after 2 nights of eating Thai food prepared by an (renowned) Aussie chef for over inflated prices we decided to go back to Isaan.... I couldn't handle Thip saying "why we pay so much for this Falang food when it not good?" anymore....

The beers always warm where I go 555

So that's from yesterdays news. Wifes village, Ban Daan (or Ban Darn as they write), is now officially mentioned in the news as well ;-(

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thai-Cambodia Border Close as Conflicts Continue

The Army Region 2 announced last night that the Thai-Cambodian border in some areas will be shut down indefinitely.

The Thai Army Region 2 announced the closure of the Thai-Cambodian border in the areas of Sakaeo, Sisaket, Surin, Trad, and Chanthaburi provinces last night, specifically at the chong jom, prasat ta kway and prasat ta muan tom border points. Merchants there have been left in a state of uncertainty and are evacuating from the border trade area.

Currently, many stores in the Surin province and Siamrath province are closed, with many schools like the Ban Darn school in the Karb Cherng district shut down as well, with no reopening date set yet. Administrative officers are prepared to evacuate all citizens in the border areas.

Other border points remain open, but have stringent checkpoints in place.

At Poipet ยเปต) border crossing, there has been a large decline in the number of traders and workers entering the popular Rong Kluea market, with roughly 200-300 people coming through per day.

One merchant said she feels uncertain about entering the Rong Kluea market in the early morning, and would want to assess the situation before ordering new products to sell in the area.

In Trad province, the border area is experiencing a large decline in the number of people crossing over to gamble at the famous casino there. Group tours are canceling their trips as well.

For the ports exporting to Cambodia and Vietnam, specifically the Chalalai, Krittawan, and the Kalapangha port, there has been a decline in buying and selling there as well.

Meanwhile, the border at Chanthaburi seems less effected where people are still crossing to buy instant foods and other commodities.

Everyone is back in village at the moment Mrs W said, they feel scared to sleep as they may have to go quick.
I asked about Market at chong chom which you can spit on from ban Daan.
They have all set up again so maybe that is a good sign or desperation..no work no eat!

I get the feeling that it may settle with a little time. Things may change but will go back to normal.
The locals will just want to get on with life.

I hope my girl got some sleep last night she was fuzzy on the phone so i knew she was real tired.
