    Recieving Mail in Thailand

I have never ever received any clear info on this...ever.

I thought to myself maybe at the post office in Thailand you can purchase a P.O box at the local office? I think a P.O box is a special box reserved for you at a public location right?

I feel like this would be the best bet rather then trying your luck putting down your Thai apartment address lol.

I have heard hear-say that nothing ever gets through or comes anyway...is this bs? What about customs or whatever...

One time I lost my ATM card and I had a new one mailed to my house in the U.S. and I didn't even know where to begin with having my family mail the new one while I was in LOS.

Get yourself a PO Box at Patong PO @ about 500 baht/year.

I had one for more than 4 years there and probably lost a couple of things but generally the greater % of stuff gets through unless the sniffer dogs give you up 555

I mentioned customs because I know AUS is ridicules about things such as Nuts or other foods. I like buying cloths online and thai ATM's always eat my ATM cards or I forget it because they always give the money out of ATM first you know?

Yeah i was just back in Oz and the card comes out before the money there.

I had one swallowed at an ATM at a 7/11 out the back of Patong but managed to get it back from the local bank branch a few days later.

Always send stuff recorded delivery with a tracking number. I have found this to be the mostly reliable. At least if it isn't delivered you can find out where it is and go and hastle the people at the depot to find it.

I've had two renewed credit cards mailed to my home from Australia - no problem.

A good tip I learned is to get an accurate Thai translation of your address and forward that to the sender to add to the address in English.

An ATM in Bali did that to me early January this year. Went back for the card as soon as I realised but no luck.

Didn't have much cash on me, forget what I did with my credit card but that was useless as well at that point. And I was flying to Phuket in 2 days. With no money at all. Luckily I was meeting two mates there who sorted me out. It was still a blast. Beat up my first Russian that trip. Good stuff.

Yeah she said you hit her from behind before she was ready.

^ only happened to me when i forgot to take it out as i got a disturbing phone call in the process of withdrawing.

As opposed to Oz banks they will give them back at the local branch of the ATM owners after it is cleaned out.

To hell with receiving mail in Thailand. I want to receive some fe-males FROM Thailand. It's another 3 months that I have to wait. At least I have some good fishing to keep me occupied... and the weather here in BC is nicer than it is in Thailand.

I've found that receiving and sending mail safely depends a lot on where you are located. No two post offices seem to be the same. I've never had a problem with the one I use in Chiang Mai, but I can't say the same for the one I used to use in Pattaya.

The English language must be confusing to many Thais. Words sound the same but are spelt and mean something entirely different. Of course, there are MANY poor spellers who incorrectly use English words improperly. Lose and Loose are good examples.
