Armee - No Power, Patong Jet Ski's win

    P7030022.jpg

Today on Patong Beach it is pretty obvious the Armee is being made a laughing stock by the Jet ski operators and the Tuk Tuks.

Many Jet ski's parked on the beach including what little shade is now there and lines of Tuk Tuks everywhere. Saw one Jet ski nearly crash into a swimmer as it was being launched.

Don't hold your breath for any of the other reforms promised

    Demolished Tomorrow

    P5060001.jpg

At Tri Trang today and they were clearing out the restaurant.
Manager says "Tomollow all gone" waving at the building.

Very sad to see, only set of toilets on the beach although I think it was just piped out to sea, but it seems a waste to lose this very substantial building. Seize it for the govt/people by all means but lease it back with a fair rental paid to the public purse.

Meanwhile the Jet Ski's terrorise the swimmers and the Tuk tuks choke the traffic on the Beach Rd and all the other roads in Patong.

Maybe tomorrow might see the Armee try to regain some face

There are comments elsewhere that when the army steps back over time, that the same crap will happen all over again. I am not a student of Thai history, so maybe this is a na´ve conclusion. I would imagine that demolitions on this scale would have a generational impact on Thai behaviour, unless next time round the capital is purely foreign, and the Thais just take the skim every transaction.

^ oh yeah...like they have been doing for years...by holding a gun to their heads 555

TBH this whole "clean up corruption" campaign in Phuket will mean little if these extortionists, together with the tuk tuk cartels are allowed to keep operating the way they have in the past, robbing, and holding tourists hostage with their standover tactics

Jetskis galore in the water at Patong Beach yesterday still.
Walked past a couple of jetskis being parked on the beach about 8am this morning.
One was all ready to scam some poor tourist. Paint and fibreglass missing on the left hand side, right on the waterline.
Thought about taking a picture but then took a look at the guy unloading the trailer, one of the meanest looking Thais, covered in tattoos and very solid build, decided I wouldn't provoke any aggravation.

From what I understand, they have been given permission by the army and the mayor of Patong to continue to work in exchange for keeping the beach clean and storing the jet ski's along the tree line, only to be brought down to the beach when requested by a customer.

Currently the chair operators and vendors are trying to come to an arrangement as well.
Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.
