Phuket to hold full-scale tsunami drill on Christmas Day

“We will conduct the drill in Patong, Karon and Rawai in the morning. Local government officials will carry out campaigns to let residents and tourists know about the drill and they will ask hotels to inform their guests,” he said. -

Smart move to prepare for a once in 700 year event on a major feast day for many, if not most, tourists in around at the time. Hotel kitchen and other staff will be working full on preparing for the big day. The powers that be may feel that it makes the drill more authentic….. The only thing it authenticates is a lack of common sense.

Yes, make everyone leave their hotel and stand on a high hill all night like they did to us after the second earthquake in March. Big quake (7.9) but no Tsunami.

The last time we had a real life Tsunami scare a couple of years back the lack of any sort of plan was evident when I finished up taking 10 very frightened people to an evacuation point in my pickup truck. They had heard the sirens and been told to evacuate but no one told them where to go or how to get there, I picked them up when they flagged me down heading inland. No authorities or police to be seen anywhere.

What? No three day alcohol ban for the memorial days?

Someone at the "how to completely destroy tourism on Phuket"- comity has been sleeping..!

No doubt the police will be on hand issuing tickets for for speeding and no helmets as people try to scramble for safety. Got to refill those coffers somehow

Why on the exact Christmas Day? Though it's helpful, I couldn't fine the rationale behind holding it on that day that really.
