I have tried to find out the reason for no windows, but can't get past "thats what people want/like"

I think it comes down personally to that they are scared of ghost/spirits at night, as even if they have shutters they will be closed at night and the house locked up tight

I have ask many a person, but can't a an answer.

Nice part of Thailand where you are too Sev...I think its just quicker and cheaper to not put in windows.
After all when your inside your sleeping or its raining and your sleeping...the rest of the time your outside around your kitchen either under or next to your house.

    Ok
This is what I don't get about the village
    Mosquitos!!
Why don't they bite Thai people? They are rampant there but the Thais never seem to get bothered.
    But they devour farangs.
Obviously you would say it is diet related

But then you have Mosquitos back in Northeast US where we all have the same diet

So then what are the Mosquitos in a Thai village going after when the odd farang isn't around?

One of my favorite things about living in Vancouver.....no Mosquitos

Mosquitos (Female) are initially attracted by carbon dioxide, therefore it must be the amount of hot air expelled. 5555555

i thought they were attracted to particular blood groups?
i know plenty of farangs who say that mozzies don't bother them.

farangs may be seen as a delicacy for them!

You build up a tolerance to mosquito saliva which means you don't react as much to it ie no swelling, itching etc.

You still get bitten, you just don't react to the bite, so its not so bad.

Mosquito's are attracted to carbon dioxide and octenol, which are contained in your breath and sweat. So sweating farangs are more of a target.

If they don't bite Thai's then there will be no Thai's that get Dengue or other mosquito diseases.

Pics of some houses around my tgs villiage - of course the 'living on a beached boat house' intrigued me!

After the ex-gfs yard in Korat , it really surprised me how clean most Southerners kept their gravel yards ( pics in Ta Khuun near Tasala and typical of all around down south )
The second pic of the unpainted concrete house is extremely typical of the "new" upwardly mobile working class family all over that area
Vivid colours will come soon , then a big new carport for all to sit under next to the Hilux ute , where they will spend most of their leisure hours on mats on the floor
Its rare to see furniture in these homes - a mat and a fan seem to do

Both.. I get bitten but has little effect MW swells up. I still use a bit of spray but more to keep them away as its annoying.

i'd hate to be in that boat when one of those tropical rain depressions moves in,although there hasn't been a bad one for a few years down there now.
