Police - ICU units What are they?

Just drove along Beach Rd at Patong and there are a whole lot of police, part of the road sectioned off and about 10 vehicles emblazoned with Police ICU Unit.

Is this a check point they are setting up for alcohol checks?

Maybe they're mobile hospital ICUs for when they give the victim a beatdown for not paying.

On a more serious note, isn't there some royal visiting around about now? Maybe just extra special cautions being taken.

    You are right I think

I rode from Tesco/Lotus intersection across the Patong hill yesterday in the rain and there were dozens of police. The furthest they were apart was 200m but most were 100m apart, more at all the intersections and all wearing orange rain slickers. It continued into Patong and carried on along Ratuchit Rd way past where I turned off.
    Huge display of manpower.

    Who would warrant this?

Not sure if he is still here but the Prince was on the island recently. I got held up for over 30 minutes when police stopped traffic along Kalim Beach Road.

The eldest Princess is Patron of Patong Hospital as well, and occasionally visits. They have a practice run a day or 2 before the event.

A bar boss I am friends with on facebook posted he was in some restaurant yesterday and some police blocked off the road. He saw some security and escort vehicles for the visiting Princess. Staff at the restaurant also said she would be eating there in a few days.
