    Jungle trekking NOT ON ELEPHANT

So any tours in phuket that do not use an elephant. Horse, atv or dune buggy are all preferable to an animal that is beaten half to death with a hook, and forced to carry weight along its spine that it cant take, refuse to support that. also if any one wants to recommend things off the beaten path or not mentioned in the guide books worth checking out please do so

    you can do it yourself.
the big hill to the north of patong is great for what you want...

starting from green hill, turn right and go to kathu..some lovely old growth forest up there...
or turn left and go to kalim...

If you're hiring a dirt bike yourself, then Phuket is probably fine.

But the best ATV adventure I've had was on the mainland. The 3 hour drive was well worth it. Unforgiving track, up in the jungle canopies, sometimes barely wider than the bike, so one mistake and you're gone. Adrenaline pumping the whole way, with some fantastic scenery along the way. I didn't book that trip myself though, so I'm not sure who it was through. Dan's missus from Kelly Hotel on Nanai booked it for me.

But this is where it was.

The white water rafting didn't look too shabby either. If you're quad biking though, try and book a private trip either by yourself or in a small group and make sure you tell them you're an experienced driver(only if you are!) as there are multiple tracks. Some of the steep ones are pretty hairy, but highly rewarding.

Not one shred of evidence supports the notion that life is serious.
