    Rai Ruen Rom

Stumbled across Rai Ruen Rom on my last trip to Thailand about a month ago............its in the Chiang Rai district about 70km from Chiang Rai City and not easy to find, well off the beaten track and the day we visited was the day before their official opening. Didn't matter though and the guy who welcomed us was more than happy to show us around this place. Its basically a farm getaway that is as self sufficient as possible and you can stay in the supplied tent accommodation for 1500 baht a night, no air-con, you do get a fan though.

The road to this place is very basic gravel, with many potholes full of water, the girls didn't think I could get out out there in the Honda Civic. In the end it made it easily and was well worth the drive, Id guess the gravel road was approx 2 or 3 kilometres from the bitumen road.

Not really up market but I have stayed here a few times, great location and I see on his website he has now put the road through. The ER6 didn't like the dirt roads 55 Have some great memories drinking whisky with the owner Nun and cooking in his kitchen with a CM friend.
