    Service in Bangkok restaurants

Sorting of going on the theme of Western restaurants in Bangkok
The service in these places is top notch also....
No more bringing out food at all different times and entrees before starters

I don't know if these owners are training them better, paying better for good staff.
    But they all were superb.
There were quite a few Filipino waiters now, so that may have something to do with it.

But it is very noticeable how well the staff are in most places

In contrast. Steak & Co, in Pattaya does not train their staff very well. We had to wait 40 minutes for our steaks. And they bring the salads with the entrees. They could have brought the salads right away. Instead we're sitting at the table like douchbags for 40 minutes with nothing to eat. almost finished the wine before the steaks arrived. And when the the dim lighting all of a sudden became super bright for 15 minutes. We were asking to turn it down. There were 10 staff people standing around doing nothing.
I just girl in bar. Buy me one dink?....

I never understood why they let the plates pile up until you leave the table.

Have you ever noticed how it doesn't seem to matter where you eat, the wait staff are never from the same country that you are in at the time.....555

That must have been a total surprise. Most of the Thai restaurants I've eaten at served one person at a time. I quickly learned not to go as a group... unless it was Muk ah tah.

I do think that some of the better class restaurants actually DO serve the various courses in the proper order and to everyone at the same time. That is one of the differences between being a chef and being just a good cook.

When out with Gavin and his friends at a lovely restaurant over looking Chiang Mai, we all got served properly and together.

I think it is quite amusing having desert before entree' then the main 555.

I do agree though. There seems to be a change. Haven't had the problem for about 3 or 4 years.

BKK probably has moved ahead quicker than some places but I could almost guarantee that practise still exists somewhere.

It just goes back to what I said in the other thread.....Bangkok has matured quickly.
I see it no different than any other big international city

I went to Siam Center the other day and the range of restaurants they have in the food court is incredible.
I had a cappuccino at a French bakery that felt like I was in Paris

    And there you have it.
There is definitely a "Sameness" creeping into Bangkok and other places around the world.
The french used to say "Vive la difference" and there was a reason for that.
I don't blame Bangkok restaurants for providing the same thing you get anywhere else, now that tourists will pay the same price they pay "Anywhere else".

Not just restaurants, nightclubs etc, Coca Cola, Macdonalds, same..same...same....yawwwnnnn....

You look for high end restaurants, read the Tripadvisor reports and select from the best.
So the question is if the restaurants have better service, or you make a better selection?

    It's not just tourists.....
The Thais will pay the same prices.....

You go outside lower Sukhumvit and it is Thais that are going to all these places.
Siam Center is 95% Thais in all those restaurants

Sorry I don't understand the question.....

And as I said before.......a lot of these places aren't high end, they are more "nice casual"
