Business and hotel operators on island tourist hotspot Koh Samui are facing an economic slowdown in the wake of last Friday's explosion in a shopping mall parking lot, resulting in a decline in both domestic and foreign tourists, operators said.

Supposed to be spending 4 days in Samui (Bophut) in August. Will probably still go but this does worry me a bit.

Why? Because too many girls per punter ratio and cheaper hotel prices? ...55

What made you pick Bophut over Lamai or Chaweng?
My only experience was in a pie making factory managing the gravy team

I wouldn't be concerned unless there is more trouble between now and then....the bomb was designed to go off late at night and in a pretty deserted car park....the people who were injured were cut by breaking glass and fallen debris rather than the bomb itself...this is not the work of a terrorist cell wanting to kill people..its been possibly done by those who would like to see a continuation of/justification for a military controlled Thailand

hope you enjoy it here...but Bophut is a pretty sleepy (touristy) part of the island with no real nightlife apart from restaurants etc

Most likely will be taking a girl with me so wanted somewhere quiet. But if my plans change and I go solo will change hotels to somewhere in Lamai.

Decided to do Samui solo so have changed my hotel to Lamai. Couldn't decide between Lamai 99, Am Samui or Coconut Beach Resort. Went with Am Samui pool side room in the end. My 1st proper time in Koh Samui. Yay.

    ^ I didn't , I thought the rooms were very tired ...

I stayed at Lamai perfect , basic but good location and only 1k a night , would reccomend

I spent most of my time in front of Coconut Beach at the restaurant , Coco or on their beach beds

I used to stay at the Weekender , another in good location , fantastic pool , but a little more expensive

Could have been the room I had , was by the pool , creaky bed , old furniture , not well maintained

Or I am easily pleased... 55

I didn't see the other rooms. But my mate was impressed too and he's a fussy bastard... for the price I thought they were good.

Am is an OK choice...a reasonable middle price option

The bungalows have better standard than the ordinary rooms in the hotel.

is that one opposite Lamai Perfect? found that quite pleasant there too and only a short walk from the hotel.

seems to be a few Coconut places there.

^ Ian is talking about Cocoe's...formerly Triple Taste Restaurant...which is where you and I had lunch together last time you were on the island Lew

Triple Taste took over Chillin' Bar which is next door (north) last year after it blew down in a storm...and incorporated their restaurant with it to form Cocoe's....so Cocoe's has a restaurant section with tables in front on the beach and then a more relaxed bar/cafe area next door with a pool table and sun loungers in front on the beach

Best set up on the beach imo...good food at decent prices...service can be a bit hit and miss as its mostly Burmese lads..but they try
