    Royal Brunei Airlines

Plenty of options to LOS from Melbourne, but a little touted carrier is Royal Brunei, they are a full service carrier and their usual fare to LOS from Melbourne is about $700. They are also very competative on the "Kangaroo Route" to London.

Another bit of news is that last month they announced they want to make all their longhaul routes with the 787 Dreamliner which they will soon be flying into Melbourne.

Flew with them 10 years or so ago. Best airline food I've ever had ... no alcohol as it was Muslim and the pre-flight announcement included a prayer to Allah (fine by me, as in that post 9/11 time I figured they'd be the least likely to get hijacked).

Never any hassles ... good service, good price, decent planes (about $700 return Perth to BKK in 2003 ish) ... I'd be happy to fly with them again ...

They changed their flight times around about 2005 or so and Perth to BKK or vice versa became a 36 hr flight with a night in Brunei so that was the end of them for me - the airport in those days was even smaller than Perth's - and the female religious police would stop and interrogate any Muslim clad woman who appeared to be travelling alone ... "Where is your husband etc"

    Enjoy...
    Life is the unexpected ...

Slightly off topic; flew over Brunei last week, looks like a mini Dubai in the making from 34,000 feet.
    Cheers, Rob.
Lifes journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well-preserved body, but to skid in sideways totally worn out, shouting: holy s.h.i.t what a ride!

Went London Perth a few years back, but of a milk run but it breaks up the flight time.
We sent mum over to UK business class with them, as she's too old for economy.
One of their planes is used by the Sultan (Of Brunei) and it's got gold plated everything.
Mum got that plane on the way back.
And where the hell was Biggles.....?....when you needed him last Saturday....?

i notice the aussie guys talk a lot about full service flights and not...all our international flights from saffa are full service..its only the budget local flights that dont offer..longest flight is ct-joberg 1.50hours..so take it that your budget airlines are also flying long haul then as well...im not a big consumer of airline food...but do seem to miss it when its not on offer 555..

My experience also , though I was out of Sydney with a $199 ( return ) Industry Special in 2006.
There was an afternoon lay over in Bandar Seri Begawan so I took a boatman ( he had about 12 kids so gave one to his barren SIL , we saw that baby as well ) , who showed me the city on stilts part and his family which was very interesting ..and a monkey forest up an estuary .
No drinking on the plane ( not that I do anyway) - and a screen with a constantly shifting arrow on it , that my inquirey showed was always pointing to Mecca!
    Good value and nice food...

No alcohol is served on board, but have been told duty-free alcohol can be consumed, but must not leave the aircraft.

Royal Brunei is doing London to Melbourne totally using Dreamliners via Brunei. Brunei to the rest of Asia is via A320s.
