    AirAsiaX to suspend NZ flights

ThIs news release is a little ambiguous to the exact nature of the changes.

Lifes journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well-preserved body, but to skid in sideways totally worn out, shouting: holy s.h.i.t what a ride!

I'm always fascinating by the research that they must do to decide flights

I am sure they have plenty of data but I'd love to see it all determined

Air Canada just started a seasonal direct flight Vancouver to Boston 2 yesrs ago
It seems almost full the 4-5 times I've taken it

And I know maybe less people visit Boston in the winter

But I'd think a direct flight 2x a weel all year would hold up

Profit is the motive which decides routes. Unfortunately for AirAsiaX the Gold Coast > Auckland extension is not very profitable. AKL airport landing and service fees are very expensive as is AVgas. Plus they have to compete with other trans-tasman LCC airlines for capacity.
    Cheers, Rob.

    Well of course it's profit
I would just be fascinated to go behind the scenes and see how they determine that before putting on a new route
As I said I am sure they have streams of data available

    I'm a bit of a data nerd.....

Reads to me that service to be no longer daily, but still have it a few days a week.

They use data from a GDS (global distribution -booking- system) to identify busy routes where their own business model and destination network lines up with aircraft availability. The GDS is part of a global reservations system which has spawned the likes of Expedia but also services travel agents.

My 1st impression too but subsequent reports indicate AKL axed and OOL frequency reduced accordingly. I guess that decision frees up one A330 for another route.

OOL-KUL flights seem to vary seasonally...always have. the route has been going 10 years or whatever and is a popular one.

Certainly is popular and I enjoy using AAX due to schedule and CNX fly thru. The price is getting up toward TG's BKK - BNE unless booked on promo.

I've done it many times OOL and LOS for around $350 return but the usual is around $450 now....always book well in advance, sometimes up to a year to get the promo fares.
