    Boy's trip with a differance

I have always promised my son I would take him to Songkran. He has been to LOS a few times and loves the place.

So its booked just me and him. He will be 12 years old by then.

12th April we fly Perth to Bangkok then to Chiang mai the first day. Booked in at Thaphae garden guest house in CM thanks to Pete for recommending. He has not been to CM before so plenty to do besides getting wet. May even take him to downunder pub for some pool and a cool drink.
On the 19th we check out of Thaphae garden and hire a ER6 from Mr Mechanic and head off to Chiang rai . In CR we will stay with Nan at My Dream guest house for a few days do some trekking then head off to Mai Sai.

Somewhere along the way will take him fishing for some monster lake fish.

Well that's the basics will do a proper trip report when the time comes.

I wish you had been my dad when I was 12!

What a great trip he'll have....

One of the best things you can give a child IMHO is the opportunity to travel and experience different cultures, ideas and perhaps impact on their insular view of the world. To realise also not just as a tourist but to live as a part of the community even for a short time.

Not one shred of evidence supports the notion that life is serious.

Sounds like you'll have a top time with your young guy. My father took me on a few adventures and they are some of the best memories I have

Wish my old man had taken me on some of his adventures when I was a lad. Ah well. I'm making up for lost time though. :-)

Whilst I agree many people take their young son's to Pattaya, there is also a down side to that.

I joined the Royal Navy at 16 and was at sea by 17, I think that it has caused problems for me to form serious relationships with normal women as I spent a lot of time in brothels when in port.

Personally I don't see Pattaya (not all of Thailand) as a place for a young man.

Of course they will love it, I don't blame them, but the minimum age IMHO should be 21 before even considering taking them, even although Thai girls love kids.

Not just that, it could cause problems with your ex, who will grill your son for info, so you could be shooting yourself in the foot.

WOW this is a old thread and brought back some memories.

The boy is 15 now, taller than me, Working part time as a coffee Brewsters and steels my cloths and shoes...

He has turned out a great kid despite his trip to LOS at 12.........55

Since this trip he has travelled a few times to Chiang mai with me and my now wife. He loves the place for the food, culture, and has been mountain biking with me a few times up in Doi Pui. He has also been to Cebu in the Philippines twice and we are going again in January. Januarys trip will be interesting as we are putting the car on the boat and going to Mindanao in the south to the family.

He does like the Asian girls, He enjoys talking with them (I'm not talking BG's) he just gets disappointed when they tell him they are 21 when he thought they were 15 or 16....55
