Not a trip report...More of a meander through my time in Thailand

Flew with Cathy Pacific on their new Manchester to Hong Kong service and then connected to Bangkok. Flew Premium class, and I must say it seems worth it. Tons of legroom and a decent recline in the cabin seat. Loads of decent films on the AVOD, and as long as you are not shy about asking they were happy to serve drinks. Food a bit of a letdown, but the on board eye candy made up for it.

10 and a 1/2 hour flight with a 2 and a 1/2 hour pit stop at Hong Kong made it a pleasant flight, but for some reason the jet lag has really bit me this time. I'm normally over the worst of it after a day, but I'm 4 days in and still knackered.....Hey Ho

Bangkok is like a nice hot English Summers day, even a little chilly at night and early in the morning. No humidity problems so far. I still have to break into a sweat, which makes a pleasant change from arriving in August or September and spending the week begging for those cold towels you are given as you wander into a bar.

Was looking forward to my 1st family meal, so after dragging myself from bed I was escorted to a...........Salad Bar. Now I'm a fair bit on the big boned size, but I thought that was pushing the hints a bit far. Then I was told that they don't serve alcohol, and I was wondering why I had left my nice cozy bed. But things brightened up when I found that they did Steaks. And very nice it was too......one of the best Steaks I've ever had. Just wish my befuddled mind could remember what the place was called.

Next day and I'm harvesting Mangos. Not on an industrial scale, just the ones in my sister-in-laws garden. Mind you that's 10 trees worth, and I'm taking back that not breaking into a sweat crap I was talking before. Mind you they are as sweet as any mangos I have ever tasted . Still not sure if it's worth the effort though.

I had the distinct feeling that I was being kept away from Alcohol. That was until uncle Mechanic arrived with 4 cases of Singha. Not sure what kind of mechanic Uncle is. I'm not even sure that he is a real Uncle, but never mind everybody went scurrying for ice and glasses, and peace descended on my part of Bangkok.

Now just to get it right....He started the singing, and as I can't understand a word he says, I just joined in. Well it would be rude not to. It's funny my Thai is rubbish but some people I can understand at least bits of what they say. But some, and Uncles one of them...Not a word. But hey, he likes a drink and that's good enough for me.

Four hours later, he left, still driving...Of course.........and I made my way back to my bed. This jet lags a real bitch.

Utd were on last night in the FA cup. TV reception in the bar was dreadful. I could make out the players but not the ball. Just watched people running around for nearly two hours and the occasional net bulge. Got back to the hotel and the wife informed me it was on in the room...perfect reception...Hey ho. Wouldn't have had to put up with the smelly American kid who made a beer last the whole game as well

I'm in Chaweng. It reminds me of mid 80's Ibiza. Both with the backpacker/Young beach bum feel and the Russians dress sense

What made you choose Chaweng? Lamai would suit you much better...

How long are you there? Its more the vibe of Lamai that appeals... and the relaxed nightlife.

Do you stay with relatives or a house you guys have in BKK area?

I could stay in my wife's townhouse in Samut Prakan and I'd have no issue with the accomodations or the Thai only area but when I am on holiday I need a pool to lay around. I spend a ton of time at the pool

Would have loved to, but it's a very quick trip over. We fly to Chiang Mai tomorrow. Passed trough Lamai today on our Taxi tour of the Island. Picked up some prawns fresh of the boat in the Port area. Big buggers. I'm told the restaurant on the main Rd will be cooking them for us tonight.

We stay with relatives in Bangkok and Chiang Mai. I'm a bit like you and after a bit I crave my own space. So we will have a Hotel or two thrown in during our stay. That's despite the "wasting money comments and looks"

Just a quick 3 day trip, before the pleasures of more family in Chiang Mai.

Oh............. and I've never space hopped down a Scottish highway. But I did once spot two drunks who were trying to hoover up the sand on the beach Rd in Douglas the Isle of Man. One of them had climbed the lamp post and had managed to connect up the hoover to the light fitting. Apart from it being a thankless task as every sweep of the hoover might of cleared the sand, but only left room for more to be blown on from the beach.

The look on the Policeman's face as he restrained the Hotel owner, whose Hoover was being used, and the astonished faces of the hooverers, who thought they were doing the Island a favour. Great ending to a pissed up night out.
