    New Years Trip Report

This will not be a JDX level TR!
    4 Days BKK
    5 days Patong
    3 days Hong Kong

Just some thoughts and observations and pics.

I am pretty lucky that I have a great job that I love and usually it's busy but pretty damn easy.
But this last few months has been very stressful.
My biggest customer is so busy they were slowing down my whole firms systems.
And we tried everything, with some of the bigger shots than me complaining.
We have seemed to figure it out and yesterday they did astronomical #'s
So I don't usually need a vacation but this one was much needed!

I haven't been to Thailand at this time of the year in about 8 years and I forgot how downright pleasant the weather is.
I walked down from Soi 11 to Soi 4 last night to meet Graham and not a bead of sweat.

I'm 45yrs old and the flights never bugged me but the last couple long haul flights have killed me.
Even last night in Premium Economy wasn't comfortable
I think I will start paying up for business.

    Citadenes Soi 11
I am in BKK for 4 days but was landing so late at 10:30pm last night I didn't want to pay 300cad for basically sleeping
So I booked Citadines Soi 11 for one night and our nice hotel is a 5mim walk to today.
Citadenes for about 2k baht(probably cheaper other times) isn't bad at all for the price
    Big room with sofa

I wanted street food last night. They asked if 3 TG's could sit with me.
They were super nice and a nice little treat to chat with them

On my flight I met a grandmother taking her grandson to Thailand, just the 2 of them
She had to be late 60's and him about 13years old.
To say I was impressed by that grandmother heading to Thailand with just her grandson is an understatement.

And the kid was a great kid also.

I gave her my business card and told her to contact me if they want my wife and I to show them around one day in Bangkok

They were just such great people I'd be more than happy to show them around for a day

Impressive, not just her age but taking the kid as well, she must be well travelled maybe ? ... probably backpacking or vanning through Europe in her 20's

Makes you wonder why the Mum isn't doing the trip with them
The only thing that will stop you from fulfilling your dreams is you.

I just got the feeling the grandmom and kid were very close.
She told me she left it up to the kid what country he wanted to go to.
    He chose Thailand

It's not much different than my sister now very much encouraging my nephew to travel with you.
She is just happy we spending the time together so probably same as the kids parents

    Hopefully we see them
    They really were fantastic people
And that's why I love travelling.....meeting people like that

My 1st or 2nd trip to Thailand
Sat next to an 85yr old lady
She was just coming back from a solo trip to Thailand/Vietnam/China

    My how have times changed!

There was a time my wife wouldn't let me out of her sight in Thailand

Nowadays....It's not unusual for me to get in later at night and she comes to the hotel the next day of she is bust

But last night she didn't even wait up for my call I was in Thailand
She fell asleep before I landed 5555

She's at beauty now and will meet me in a couple of hours at new hotel

    MIL dynamic

As I've said many times....I love my MIL and I genuinely enjoy spending time with her.

But she is still constantly up my stepson's ass. It seems she is actually getting worse.

Ao decided she wanted just her and I to go to Patong. I'm always happy to bring the family.
But then after I booked everything she asked if Nut could come
My MIL has been after him so much that my wife just wanted him to have a break from her.
Although she hasn't even told my MIL that she's just taking Nut to Patong

I booked a suite in BKK so plenty of room.
But I told my wife I don't want to listen to her mom bitching at Nut the whole time.
So me and Ao will be solo tonight and then they will come hang at hotel for the last 2 days in BKK

A family friend who was 87 had saved up for a trip up the Amazon after his wife died. He used to be a merchant sailor so is used to travelling... he used to run 17 miles every Sunday morning to keep fit... and walked for an hour most days... then one day he overdid it chopping down a tree and burst a valve in his heart... sadly he died a few weeks later. So never did make that trip up the Amazon...

He always inspired me.. someone so fit and healthy way into old age... probably too fit for his own good, thinking he could chop down a large tree like he did in his youth...

    Introducing Soda.....

This is the little girl my MIL takes care of as a job.....but of course they have fallen head over heels in love with her.
At 1st the mom would drop her off and pick her up after work at 7pm

She then said her father had an accident and was paralyzed and asked if Soda could stay with them full time.

Well she now has basically abandoned Soda and never really comes around anymore and they have her 24hr/7days a week.

She will be with us the next 2 days and I am thrilled to have her

Looks like you have mastered large pics too!

Relics of Sukhumvit... I think that could have it's own thread... Minder could fill it with relics of Cowboy alone...

you can understand when they leave a child with their own relatives to go and earn money , but to effectively leave with the babysitter seems mental ... lucky she made a good choice of your MIL ...

The only challenge was I only wanted to carry on luggage so had to he creative for clothes for both climates.

I was coming down a bit ill before I came to Thailand and I think the long flight excasberated it.
So my 1st full day/night was spent mostly lounging in my hotel room.
But these trips to LOS now are really just about seeing Ao and Nut
So before it would have killed me to lose a day of holiday....now it's just another day

Seem to be getting better. But going to head to clinic in the morning for that infamous shot Ao gets that I got last year in Samui that cleared up a major sickness I had in a matter of hours.
Still need to remember what they hell the shot is

    Solitaire Bangkok Hotel

We are staying at this hotel
It's at the very end of Soi 11 down a small Soi.
    I love the location.
I'm a huge fan of Soi 11 and this is a tiny bit away from action that the street is calm.

The hotel had a full refurbish and opened Dec
The staff is extremely nice but most seem new and extremely slow. Not that has been a huge problem
I would rate it a very nice 4 Star hotel

We are in a Jr Suite Club room.
The Club gets you 15% all food at every restaurant in hotel your entire stay and some other benefits.
    The room is very nice

I think you can probably get decent rates outside the peak time of the year
