I understand about the lack of oxygen and its effects but the differance is we dont spend days climbing up. A) we will not be tired and exhausted. B) spending days climbing up you get to climatize we dont. Good and bad.

We wont be sleeping at that aldutude and within a hour or so we will be down to around 3500m. Its just that first bit getting down to that level that will be the issue. Need to land and go. On other rides I have been 70 plus KPH I dont like comming off at that speed.

Shyam tells me we will use all the air tank in the first hour. its for emergencys but he tells me once someone used it they keep doing so.

Two years back I did Crested Butte mountain in Colorado. Just checked my notes it is 3700m. We road up from town at 2700 up to 3400m. I know 3400 is not as high as Nepal but at 3400 the only issue I had was leaving me beathless. My buddy Chris rode higher than me and I rested. I would walk the bike 30m and be out of breath. Chris didnt get effected not sure if it was because he is a lot fitter than me. Out of breath was my only issue and I think lack of fitness didnt help.

The train station i mentioned was the Jungfrau in the Swiss Alps and @ 3500m it's the highest train station in the world and i know of people getting altitude sickness up there too although it didn't affect me on either of my trips up there.

Im thinking that because I didnt get sick last time in Colorado only out of breath I should be ok at 3500ish with some better fitness. Plus also in Colorado it was a few hours of riding up to 3500. Maybe this 4100m start will be a better choice but I really want to go to the higher drop off.

Guess its a big differance 3500 to over 5000m

On one of the Top Gear specials (Filmed in the Andes) they used Viagra to help prevent altitude sickness. So take a little blue pill, but warn your riding partners that you may feel a little randy on the way down 5555

A few days in total in KTM, 2 or 3 nights in Pokhara, and around 14 nights up and back to EBC.
