    PGC...Old Gits trip

So my 2019 trip was for 10 days. I'd like to say it was a boys trip, but seen as we had two, 60th birthdays, and my 61st, it was more of an Old Gits trip.
Flew with Qatar on the way out, on their new A350's and they were good flights. Good room in economy, even if you are 6ft 3 and have maybe gained a few lbs over the years. Even better both flights. The one to Doha and the one to Phuket, were half full so I got to relax over 3 seats on both legs.

That's more than can be said about Manchester Airport. All the lounges were full in Terminal 2, so I was stuck trying to relax and get a drink in the main airport bars. the lack of serving staff and the fact that everybody seems to get their own drink and pay for it rather than buy a round, meant that the queues for a drink were about 20-25mins.

Old Ladies deciding what they want when they get to the bar, and then deciding they want a cup of tea. "What about you Mabel...do you fancy a sherry" "Oh I shouldn't ...what do you think"..."well we are on holiday"....No just a cup of tea"..."what about you Gladys" .......Grrrrrrr

Alomost happy when Thomas Cook went bust and stranded most of them abroad.

So anyway I ordered 4 pints of Guinness and settled down.

Arrived at Doha, and breezed through their checks. Found a smoking area, and for once it was air conditioned with good air exchange, TV's and nice chairs, unlike the close to Turkish Prison conditions you get at most airports. In Manchester you smoke in an outdoor cage next to the bins.

But all in all I would recommend Qatar. It's my 1st time with them. They are not shy with the on board drinks either, unlike some airlines I could mention.

So Arrived At Phuket, Straight through Immigration, leaving the Hoard of Chinese visitors busy filling in their immigration forms.

Booked a Taxi (800Baht) and got my Thai Sim.

Then followed the most bizare Taxi ride I've ever had. The driver had half decent English. well if you count swear words, and proceeded to spill the beans on the Top Family..2 inch Pen1s extension it seems. In Hong kong, seems they do the best work.

Then stories of corruption and finally disbelief of UK laws on sex discrimination.

"So if you say a lady is Beautiful at work what happen"
"well" said I , "It depends how she takes it"
"What happen if you say she Sexy....In Thailand she enjoy"
    "probably get a warning"

"You mean you cannot give Ass a good squeeze"

    Err No.....

Fukin Stupid country Angrit........I kind of had to agree.

So arrived at PS Hotel. Just over the Rd from Bangla, so ideal spot.

Got there at 8.30 am and they had my room ready. In fact the let me choose from a couple of rooms.

1000 baht a night. So basic but clean, and the double glazing means that altough next door to Tai Pan it's not noisy at all. Plus the TV worked. I don't know about anybody else but I always stay in hotels where the TV is sh1te. Picture is fuzzy and breaks up. So this was a 1st for me.

Plus it has a lift and a balcony. After a day out, a lift is a big plus. Climbing 5 flights of stairs when Rat arsed is no fun.

But the biggest advantage that the place has is the Food. Cheap but great tasting. The Tom Yum Goong was amongst the best I have ever had.

And for those that need to know these things.....500Baht charge if you take back more than one guest. 1st guest free.

So as is my want, I made my way to the OTOP bars for my afternoon drinkies.

I have spent many a happy hour here before, playing my choice of music and chatting with the daytime lovelies.

    Well new OTOP is cr8p

Half the bars were closed. Either empty or not open until evening, and the ones that were open were competing for about 25 or so customers.

I used to enjoy it here for my lunchtime booze up, but that's gone for a burton now.

Anyway I joined the only half full bar who were watching Australian rules. I must admit I couldn't see any rules. It just looks like semi organised violence.

So after I pointed out that you would only play that game if you were sh1te at normal football, I could see it was getting time to leave, so I trotted off to a little bar on the corner of soi kesub on the beach side.

After about ten minutes one of the bar staff who had been chatting to a rather decent looking girl who had wandered in by herself, suddenly announced to all and sundry that the girl was from the Phillipines, and was by herself, and had only been to the beach and her room, and she had 5 days left of her Holiday.

The Girl was by this time burying her head in her hands and looking mortified.

Typically Thai the barstaff thought she was doing the girl a favour.

Reminds me of the t-shirt seller who runs out to shout we even have your size Mr to me as I amble past.

    Hey ho ....welcome to Thailand

Then my friends appeared, and after much handshaking and trying to remember when we all got together last time (13 years ago it seems) we finally got down to some serious drinking.

There was lots of reminiscing, and a little bit of wondering if the 23 year old Filipino would be up for an Old gits night out (She wasn't), before we moved onto The Place, on Beach Rd for happy hour Cocktails. At 99baht each they are a little joy of sunshine in a Brexit hit spiralling which has seen Thai prices stay pretty much the same, but double in real terms over the past 15 years.

After an hour or so of Pino this and Brandy that, it was time to hit Bangla rd.

    Dead as a Ducks Ar8e

I kind of like Bangla between 4 and 7pm. The Rd closes and the bars spill out onto the street. You can chat and people watch while the sun goes slowly down.

But where had the people gone. My fav bars down the right as you hit Bangla from the beach were all pretty much empty. There are still people in the street, but they are the Chinese tour groups, the slightly seedy looking groups of Indian men, and the Arab families. None of whom drink. Or they don't drink in the bars. Some were clutching beers bought at the 7-11 while wandering up and down, with nothing to look at other than everybody else wandering up and down. They had gone to the Zoo to look at the freaks and ended up looking in the mirror.

Not that it bothered us as we worked our traditional way down Bangla, telling every Bar Girl that she was indeed the most beautiful Girl on Bangla Rd, or trying to Confuse them......Go on then say Squirrel

There is something disarming about a girl who nods during your conversation and smiles a lot, then when you ask if she understands...shakes her head and says no.

So we waft in to Soi Seadragon, leaving (In our minds) a sea of admireers behind us, and its time for Suzi Wongs.

That reminds me of a hotel in Ban Pong where I had to stay when visiting my kids in Kanchanaburi. Their village does not have a hotel, and even in the city of Ban Pong there is only one. The whole family were with me when I booked into the hotel because they were going to drive me to their village. There were about 4 kids and their parents in the room when the teen age boy turned on the television. The TV station it opened at was fucking PORNOGRAPHY! And I do mean real pornography! There was shocked silence in the room when that happened before the TV was quickly turned off. ... then all the adults laughed. I can guess the previous occupant of that room. 555 I didn't even know that pornography was available in Thailand, and certainly not on public television in a hotel room.

Having left my Pals in Tums bar, I strode on to Suzi Wongs. It has to be the original bar for me so I swerved past all the other Go Go's until I reached the promised land. Went in and it was packed. Koreans had claimed Suzi Wongs as their own, and what made it even worse was that the only seat left in the place was at the stage.

But unperturbed and unpestered I ordered my drink.

Well there was a full on assault from the stage on the gathered hoards of Koreans, which by this time also included me. They were loving it. I was frantically searching for another seat. The Koreans were beside themselves and I was in the middle. Then a failed attempt to wack the Lad sat next to me whistled past him and smacked me on the nose. that caused me to hit my teeth on my Singha bottle and the resultant foaming from the bottle went up my nose.

That was when it hit me. Not the rubber trunction but the fact that I'm 61 and maybe a little old for all this.

I drank my beer standing up out of range, and forlornly left. Another chapter in my life over.

I trudged back to Tums Bar, feeling my age. But next to tums bar was a new Suzi Wongs. Well, I may as well try it. If its the same I can just leave.

Now this was more like it. Rubber trunctions were piled up at the side of the stage. I was pounced on by two semi naked darlings and escourted to a comfy sofa towards the back.

For the price of a couple of drinks, the petting zoo was well and truely open.

My faith in Suzi Wongs re-established I happily joined my Pals In Tums with a little bounce in my step.

Of course it went soundly downhill after that, with many many shots and a woeful attempt at Angels by Robbie Williams. But happy that my choice of Hotel meant that if needs be I could actually crawl home from where I was.

I don't think there's any place that brings back as many common memories for most BMs than Suzi Wongs. Just the name itself conjures nostalgia.

The SW 1st story was hilarious!

I've never been a fan of gogo's, in Thailand or in the US/Canada

I haven't been to one in a while and one of my biggest clients dragged me and 2 of his buddies to one
The 3 of us had no desire to be there and he was drunk and kept buying us lap dances and we all kept politely refusing so he must have had 10 lap dances in a row 555

So we spent most of the next day trying to find a bar which was showing last nights game of Manu V Astrana, but to no avail. We had avoided knowing the score but eventually gave up and looked up a famous 1-0 win over a team I had never heard of before.

But hey a win's a win, and we hadn't been shy to order drinks while we were looking so the day was taking on a relaxed drunken hue. A few of the boys wandered off to the beach, and I set out on my daily search for a good foot massage.

To cut a long search down, in case anybody else is looking. The cheapest (200baht) and the best was opposite Soi Seadragon, next to a 7-11 or maybe it was a family mart.

I know judging these things is personal. My mate was happy with the girl with the biggest t1ts, but for those who want a proper deep massage, that is the place to go.

After that and a wander back to PS Hotel for a quick Pad Thai, it was the Bangla Rd run again.

Daytime girls this time, who were left in no doubt that they were better looking than the night time girls.

Finally caught up with the match. What a turgid load of cr8p. Only one cure for that waste of time....A quick kip and back out later

Well I did the unthinkable......Went for a quick Kip and didn't wake up till next morning.

    Another sign of age methinks.

P1ssed off because I've missed a night out. Only to find out that nobody else made it out either. Some compensation I guess.

Today marked a change of pace and of Venue. We were off to Kata and Mom Tris's Villa Royale.

It was a kind of birthday present for me, so we hopped in a taxi (500Baht) and away we went.

It is a stunning Hotel. Built into the Mountainside, and overlooking the Sea. The rooms are Huge, with my new balcony being bigger than my whole room in Patong. If you were chasing somebody around the bed, you would be knackered before you caught them. The bed is the biggest bed I have ever seen. Smart TV, a lounge and a huge bathroom completed the effect. Quite possibly the best room I have ever stayed in.

3 Pools, which all had to be sampled, followed by happy hour for Cocktails 6-7pm. The Cocktails are superb, and pack a real punch, so we were set up nicely for our night out.

The Bar area in Kata appears to consist of one strip of bars running up both sides of a Soi. There might be more but there was more than enough bars to satisfy us so we settled in there.

It would appear that this is the place that Bar Girls go to when they are a little over the top. Some younger ones who had succumed to the delights of McDonalds and some ladyboys who quite frankly were not even trying.

But we had a wander anyway. A nice Irish bar popped up and I satisfied my craving for a few pints of Guinness, and the Country and western music was a nice change from the relentless hip hop you get competing in the other Bars.

After that a little stroll, and a few games of table football. The Local ladyboys won in our Thailand v England match up, but given they were slightly more masculine that me, it didn't spoil our evening.

Further down there was a nice bar with a band, and, something I look for more and more, comfy seats. A few Singhas there were enjoyed when I realised that the beer and cocktails had kicked in. The Comfy sofa, was now a prison. Try as I could I couldn't get up. Concerned bar girls tried to help, unlike my mates who just laughed, and eventually I rolled off the sofa and crawled over to the pool table and got up using the pool table to drag myself up.

Even upright I was a little unsteady. But then it was my turn to laugh as nobody else could get up either. It was only when the butch ladyboys ran over and helped that we all got to our feet.

It was time for food. Street food it has to be. No idea what we had, but everyone to a man was sick as a dog during the night.

It had to be the food, not the drinks surely.

    Nobody made breakfast.

I had a holiday with the former Mrs Bacwaan here going back about 18 years or so now...it was superb...and we got to do some cooking lessons in their superb kitchen...the views out over the cliff to the sea are sensational....
