April 2019 Travel Plans

For early next year I was planning on an extensive SEA trip like SE went on, but a national project will be reaching maturity around May and will need constant babysitting, so I most likely will be working without a break between May and December 2019. So I thought I'd take April off and do something proper. Which is now approved and locked in. Not really sure what to do as yet though.

I've got a vague plan to fly to Istanbul for a couple of days and then head down to Antalya and from there ferry it to Geeece. Greece to Italy and maybe squeeze in France and Spain into 2-3 weeks and then head over to Samui to relax for another week.

Any tips or suggestions? I know the weather in Europe will still be on the cool side so crowd wise it's probably not a bad time.

Or I might just pissfart around SEA for a month.

^ Why's what? April seems ideal to me. No beach weather, but surely it's a great time for eating and drinking and a little sight seeing here and there before the big tourist rush.

April in Istanbul and Athens would be agreeable, not hot and fewer tourists. I'd not do Italy/France .... maybe Spain/Portugal but honestly, you could easily spend 2 or 3 weeks between Istanbul and Athens. Eastern Europe is great!

Mind you I wasn't thinking Rome or Paris. I had Palermo in mind, followed by maybe a train to Naples. I'd love a train trip through Italy. First class on the fast train for comfort and sight seeing would be good any time of the year I think.

The Amalfi Coast would still be gorgeous in April... I've been to the Med in February and it's been warm. Though it can also be chilly too.. 55

The last few Easters here in the UK have been lovely. Good time to go to the med too as it's pre high season. Late teens, 20 maybe.

Well,if that's what you have in mind i guess April would be ok. Greek Isles would be a bit risky weather wise....great place in summer though.
Some of the islands are just opening up again around Easter time after the winter....it can be cold there too.
I've been in Eastern Europe for Easter a couple of times and it was mainly ok but shorts and thongs weather is very rare then 555

I think you'd be crazy to just go back and do the same thing you've been doing for the last 5 years or so
If you have the extended time then go do somewhere else

Also, I think we are all a bit guilty of thinking every holiday has to be a beach holiday
I'm definitely guilty of that a lot

Italy has been on my list for some time. You can also mix it up and do plenty of city touring and when you want to hit the beach go over to Sicily or various other places. Sardinia looks really nice but not done any research on costs.

I went to Italy the year before the Euro came in

We went down to Capri

Stayed at a gorgeous hotel
Hotel Caesar Augustus

We were 3 young guys in a fairly big room and think it was about 150usd/nt

The cheapest room now when i look is around 400usd/nt

But I've looked also from time to time and you can still get decent hotel prices on Hotwire

I'd recommend it highly!

If you ski, come in the winter

If not, come to Western Canada in the summer and experience the best weather in the world
24-28 C every day with a hot sun, zero humidity and the sun goes down at 9:30-10pm

No it actually says it's a cheap commuter train. Looks like you can't buy asigned seats on the regional trains though. They're basically like regular public transport and sometimes you end up standing. Most likely not the case in April but.

This itinerary looks amazing.

Can't think of anything worse than being stuck on a floating prison with a load of human garbage. Not for me. But then again I've never experienced one so not that sure. I just know I don't like hordes of people in one place 55.
