Burning season

I'm currently planning my next high season trip and would like to do a day trip to Doi Inthanon. I plan to do the Kew Mae Pan nature trail then maybe see Mae Ya waterfall too before heading back to the city.

FYI I will be coming 1st or 2nd week of February so should I be ok for avoiding the haze? I read (maybe here) that it doesn't usually kick in till late in the month.

early Feb is usually fairly clear.
March and April are when it can be really bad.
i've been atop Inthanon and looked down on the haze. the very top/above 1500m seems to be above it.

Nice one thanks. Have you done that particular nature trail before? Apparently you rock up and by a local tour guide who takes you on the trail. I heard it takes around 2-3 hours all in all so I was hoping to also visit Mae Ya waterfall and possibly Mae Chaem before going back to the city. Is that doable if I got to Doi Inthanon for say 9am?

My trips are generally late Feb in to March. So far I have only encountered issues with the burning from about the second week of March. So as Moo says you should be fine.

Thanks guys for the quick info. I've got some other Chiang Mai question but will ask those in the main thread.

No problems doing the nature walk; very easy. The times posted like in all National Parks are over-stated, catering for the unfit. A few hours will easily wrap it up, depends on how many questions you ask and how much gazing at views. The groups are usually very small so that helps as well. Plenty of guides. Normal walking shoes are fine but Iwould not recommend "crocs".

Never been a fan of crocs tbh. More a Keen or Teva fan. :)
I wear Birkenstocks for the beach/pool , but was looking for something else for walking further , getting wet , just ordered some Keen Sandals Clearwater CNX - cheers

I've never even tried crocks. The biggest argument is apparently the comfort, which is weird, cause they look far from comfortable to me.
